So no one's gonna talk about the dolls being only 3 dollars? Well obviously it's not really easy to compare because the value of money has changed over the years, but knowing that a Barbie doll nowadays costs about at LEAST 15 dollars says a lot

You were on the right track about inflation, I underestimated it too. $3 in 1959 money has the same purchasing power as around $28 today so the price has been relatively stable (ignoring quality differences). Thanks for the comment/dropping by, always appreciated!

Each commercial is just so emblematic of the decade in which it was made. You selected these very well, felt like I was traveling through time. I remember I had the Barbie imessage girl. You could “text Barbie” with the phone that came with the doll. You would get responses (from a very primitive AI) to the texts you sent too! I had so much fun with that.

@@SofaSurferExtraordinaire the newest barbies are as stiff as the original barbie lol, the articulated ones are always more expensive, and the new made to move bodies even more, there only 3 options: the yoga dolls, the wheelchair dolls, and the BMR collectors editions (specially the male versions, they come exclusively on collectors editions)
@maribelgranados80
@maribelgranados80 2 жыл бұрын
@@SofaSurferExtraordinaire I agree with Maricella. The made to move dolls cost anywhere between $14.99-$24.99+ (US dollars), the male dolls are even harder to get a hold of. And the majority of the posable dolls are part of the collectors editions. The Look dolls. The style dolls they run about $100+ and to be honest some of the dolls that cost a bit more the accessories and clothes quality isn’t worth the price tag in some cases. I could careless spending a that amount of money for plastic type fabric or that awful shiny cheap fabric that tends to run lol The fashionista dolls are stiff as boards, but they are a more affordable range at least for little girls who want to play with them. Which is sad cause when my daughter was young to play with the barbies she always wished they all came in mtm bodies. So, she would settle for the MH dolls.
@Bane_Amesta
@Bane_Amesta 2 жыл бұрын
@@maribelgranados80 Oh yes, I feel you. I luckily found some MTM barbie dolls on flea markets, naked and stained, I had to replace the heads and clean the hell out of them to make them first. But on big stores? Nothing, not even the normal yoga MTM dolls are available, or cheap enough to justify the price. Male dolls are almost a legend here on my country (okno but I hope you get my point), not even the older Ken articulated Fashionista is easy to find :'( Ans is sadder for me since I just can't settle for the stiff dolls anymore, specially for custom projects...

When Barbie really went overkill with the pink, and dumbed down playsets and dolls to be more infantile. 60s and 70s are the best, I also collect vintage Barbie too! I feel like the new barbies are great because it’s not just a skinny light skin blonde doll anymore, there’s different sizes races styles ect. But the new barbies outfits aren’t the best because there’s so much colour and bling and I feel like it would be better if they still sold the simplistic dolls like the old ones but still get the diversity but I guess they just do what’s selling and kids are all for girls with mix and match neon outfits with colorful hair! thanks for this.

Definitely great to have the dolls more reflective of the wonderful range of humanity that's out there! I agree that the newer fashion is a little over the top for me, but I've never been much of the 'flashy' type and generally don't enjoy attention (🤣), so big bold flashy outfits have never been my thing. Definitely, its always a balancing act between keeping the dates approx 10 years apart/quality of the video/avoiding large watermarks on the source video etc. In this instance I started using commercials where I felt they were selling you the same 'features' over and over again and met the date ranges I needed. Thanks for the comment/dropping by, always appreciated!

I guess that's debatable. I think the 2000s was the golden age. The modern belly button body, the clothing quality, the quality over all. Not to mention silkstone & model muse, My Scene, Fashion Fever... I'd say between 2001 to 2012 Barbie peaked. The whole Barbie collector era was like a dream. Top Model! I could go on lol.

I personally believe the 90s and 2000s videos that were chosen were on point especially the one from 2004. The fashions that the girls were wearing every single girl in my high school was wearing the exact outfits especially because of the cell phone. And omg DANCE MOVES BARBIE??? The most iconic mid 90s Barbie. Well… besides totally hair Barbie

The 80's has been a much better golden age for barbies, especially the Superstae era who was beteeen the end of the 70's and the early 80's with amazing playsets! At that time barbie's furnitures were made of an excellent quality with solid and think plastic, functional drawers and doors and lots of miniatures, while instead the best era for clothing was from 1959 to 1972.

In the 1950's skipping was considered wasteful and un-lady like. With the sweeping societal changes of the 1960's, skipping was rediscovered and quickly became mainstream. The barbies of the 80's and 90's were gorgeous. Beautiful clothes, bend and snap knees, twist waist, pretty faces, fun themes. It was barbie at her height of perfection. And now.....well, let's just say it's heartbreaking what they have turned her into. Poor quality, awful clothes. They have sucked all the fun out of barbie by using her to make statements instead of being what she is, and what has made her a success.....just being a fun toy.

Exactly! With all those "Karen" moms complaining about how she's too sexy, too skinny, too much make up and all... What they make now is completely heartbreaking may be except for the different body types and made to move bodies. Even their quality control, I have no idea what they're doing...wonky eyes, one eye obviously larger than the other, poor rooted hair with numerous bald spots unlike the 80s and 90s that had thick hair which was so much fun to brush and braid or style. As for the outfits...let me not even go there.
