I have lived and worked in many very large cities: Chicago, New York City, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Seoul, Hong Kong, Madrid and others. Large cities can have some excellent attractions, but I was looking for something smaller and more laid back. I picked Arcachon, and couldn't be happier. I'm a 45 minute train ride from Bordeaux when I feel like a day trip and only 2 hours from Spain if I get a craving for some Spanish food and culture. And my 3 dogs love it here. No snow! My apartment is in the heart of the village center, 200 meters from the beach and the train station. We can go in 5 different directions for our 4 daily walks. My 15 year old poodle/Jack Russell picks the route each walk. Arcachon is very dog friendly and my 3 love reconnecting with their 4-legged buddies every day. Except for supplies for my dogs, I can do all of my shopping on foot. My car is 2 years old, but has just over 4.000 km on it. 💯👍

What are your thoughts about Expat seniors living in France? As retired educators (we helped a new school open in Lviv - Aug-Dec), we are exploring Poland (Dec-Jan), Estonia (Feb), and possibly France. Nantes looks amazing. Plus it has mild summers!! But, Paris is beautiful and walkable. And, Nice too looks beautiful and welcoming. We seek a walkable, affordable, and comfortable place to call home. My wife Cindy has MS, so calm is a required component. I grew up in Los Angeles, working & driving 24/7, so the European pace is very attractive. Thank you. Dean & Cindy

Your comment made me smile. We too are huge fans of Arcachon, visited it countless times. It was also on our list to retire but at the end we decided to buy a house in La Seyne-sur-Mer. Ever been there? Also gorgeous. Close to Toulon and Marseille where you can get anywhere from, wonderful nature, nice relaxed people, great wine, olive oil, oysters… My husband and I in our late fifties now and will buy our new house this summer. Retirement is planned at 62. Take care, greetings from Germany 🙋‍♀️🇩🇪

@@DeanRamserDear Dean, yes, Nice is very nice (sorry 😂) but I wouldn’t recommend going there. Tbh, Nice, Villefrance, Cap Ferrat,… are flooded with new money Russians who spoil the prices. The landscape between Marseille and Toulon is simply breathtaking and you can get there everything you appreciate about Nice. With normal people and normal prices 😅 Good luck picking your retirement place. Greetings from Germany

@@poughkeepsie8516 La Seyne-sur-Mer looks lovely! Just enough out of the way to remain relaxed. I have family in Marseille, Aix and Lyon, but my "niece" lived here in Arcachon. My brother never treated her, a step-daughter, as his own, and her mother took by brother's side. That left her hung out to dry. She has two teenage children and a big mortgage on her house, and then her ex moved to the States with his new g/f and stopped paying alimony. She was in real trouble, so I sold my house in Flagstaff and moved here with my 3 dogs. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I grew to love Arcachon. I was "retired" when the old, real Motorola went in the crapper 20 years ago. I was 54, but had enough money, so I retired permanently. I could live anywhere in the world, but I'm staying here. Then, just last week, my niece left for the States for a job that will pay her 5x what she was making here. I am so happy for her, but will miss her terribly.

@@poughkeepsie8516 Last year, a house in Cap Ferret sold for 25 000 €. Per square meter!!! Unbelievable. My brother purchased an apartment in Paris for his son to live in while he attended chiropractic school. When he sold it over 5 years ago, he got 10 000 € per square meter. Since then, prices have gone crazy. I was working in Australia back in the late '90s when the British lease on Hong Kong expired and China took it back over. The amount of Hong Kong wealth that moved to AUS was stunning. Housing prices in the nice areas of Sydney doubled, forcing the locals out, into distant suburbs. I 100% support your recommendation to look for a small, local community. It's a fabulous way to live.

I suggest that when you next do a video you have a narrator that can read properly and also write properly. Pronunciation of some of the French cities was so bad. And the spoken was different from the text. Overall, the mistakes made me question the validity of the information you provided. And I had already been to many of the locations you mentioned. Just saying

Yeah, but the south has a sunnier, warmer climate and more beautiful landscapes (The Alps, the Pyrenees, etc.). The Lille region for example is pretty gloomy, especially in winter, and It's very stressful. It's a region where a lot of people are leaving.

@@Misterjingle i disagree, there is more people leaving on cote d azur, the mediteranean coast than in the north .it s crowded, too hot in summer, wild fire , a bit like south california . maybe you never put a toe in normandy or in somme bay , vosges, brittany. it s differente than mountains but it s worth it
@Misterjingle
@Misterjingle 2 ай бұрын
@@armelle6936 Sorry, you can't disagree on the facts. The Hauts France region or Grand Est region has the largest number of people leaving the region 😅 the most growing regions are PACA, Occitanie and Nouvelle Aquitaine. A better climate, a better landscape, better food, a better quality of life. It's a stereotype, floods are more and more common in Hauts-de-France and Normandy. Disasters are the same everywhere. I lived in the south, I've never seen anything in 7 years. It’s a very Parisian way of thinking about the region. Think of it as if it were a vacation region. You don't just live in August and July. I prefer 2 crowded months rather than 8 gray and rainy months like in Normandy or Brittany (yeah, that's the right number).
