CES isn't a public event so it's not like you could attend just because you were in town at the same time. It's only for industry members or press. I used to work in the convention industry in Vegas, so I would work on booths for companies at all kinds of different tradeshows. CES is one of the more interesting shows to attend but it still can get boring by the end of the day as many of the booths are very similar. There are always the top gimmicks of the year, like one year it was HDTV then a few years later 3D TV's, then 4k, then VR, etc. I'm not sure what this year was exactly, though, but I'm sure there was some thing that most big names had the same of.

As a retired trade show employee, I always tell people to plan everything WAY ahead of time. Everything, meals, plan of attack, and the path through the building(s). 25 years as an exhibit builder for almost any and every kind of show. The map of the show is your bible. Pay attention to what is important and let others just go away. Don't forget the panels/keynotes if interested. They have a huge impact on your planning.

I am from Europe, but on my trip to the US one of the stops was Las Vegas. For us it is one of the picturesque places in your country, referenced a thousand times in movies. In iconographic terms, it is the same as for you it would be to visit Rome or Paris. Obviously we visited other more emblematic cities, but this is the one discussed in the video. I must say we had a great time, although we didn't really spend more than $5 on the slots, just for a laugh. The greatest fun was in the Cirque du Soleil shows, which curiously have their headquarters in that city, eating at buffets with endless menus and shopping, with a break to visit the Grand Canyon. Without a doubt, if I were to repeat that tour of the US again, I would visit Las Vegas again.

I own a mid 90's Vegas slot machine, The key to the game is the feel of the clunk, sounds and the noise of the coins etc. The new games take away the entire coin part. The best part is the tray is made like a bell, so when you cash out or jackpot every knows.

Anyway sounded like you missed these areas and I think you would have liked them. Maybe if you go again :-). I don't drink or gamble and still enjoy Vegas but I do like the mechanical slot machines. Fun fact: claw machines were effectively slot machines masquerading as a game of skill. There was a random chance that the claw would hold on or release when it raised up. The industry decided a few years ago to disable that feature to avoid any possible regulation as gambling. Similar accusations have been leveled at other such machines where you can win physical prizes like Stacker.

While at CES one year before the Pandemic, my wife and I were seated alone at a table outside in between the Las Vegas Convention Center buildings eating lunch . Two gentlemen came up and asked if they could sit at the same table , we said yes and then struck up a conversation. After about 15 minutes, I looked at one of the men and said I to myself -- I know this guy -- but his name badge was below the top of the table. Five minutes later it came to me and I said "David Copperfield!?" He nodded yes and showed me his badge. Forward head carriage becomes extremely debilitating the older we get and it’s fixable with 10 minutes of easy exercises 3-4 times a week . Its especially important for those of use that spend lots of time on keyboards. I was able to fix my posture over the course of about 2 years and I almost never get headaches anymore and my back no longer hurts all the time. It changed my life. I've never been to CES but once in 1993 or 1994 I did go to COMDEX, a long defunct computer show also in Las Vegas. My co-workers and I spent 2 or 3 days at COMDEX. It was great. Back then, stores like CompUSA and Fry's were filled to the hilt with shrink-wrapped software, PCs, and loads of peripherals. All of those vendors and more were at COMDEX. I didn't get so tired either because I was in my 20s then. I recall a whole tent of computer pron. It was before DVDs, but the booth people talked about how clear the picture was. We were just amazed to see pron. Good times.

Seeing this video from Japan, and I find it strange how nobody was wearing a mask inside the plane (1:20), while here everyone wears a mask literally everywhere, even in the middle of the mountain while doing trekking... Hope you and your family are fully recovered.

Went to the 1985 Chicago CES as a 12 year old. My dad struggled to get me in as there was a no-kids policy. I was probably one of the first kids to see the NES in the US. I remember a huge screen playing Duck Hunt.

Well I was EXCITED to see everything you showed from CES!!! THANK YOU! Of all the tech channels I'm subbed to, YOU are really the ONLY ONE what showed off the floor.... ALL the other ones were showing off the booths in the Belagio suites.... it wasn't about the main floor... And PERSONALLY I would have had a much better time on the floor (if I had mushrooms LOL) :P

I didn't get to say, "Welcome to Vegas!" You probably would have enjoyed the "Pinball Hall of Fame," which is kinda-sorta across the street from Mandalay Bay. Hundreds of Pinball machines, some of them from as far back as the 1960s, and pretty much all playable. It's hard to get an hour or two of entertainment for $10 in Las Vegas!

My whole family listed this as their highlight of our vegas trip last year... Highly recommended! Also most of the machines are .25 or less!

The point of honest gambling is to deal with differing priorities. To some people, a 1% chance of getting a life altering amount is worth more than a guaranteed reception of a 50th of that amount. Thus odds that average out to 1.5% will be a win for the gambler and the house.

As Techmon has reported there is only ONE brand of raw cassette player guts, and it is a POS with DC erase heads and poor flutter and wow. You'd be better off to buy a used old time machine, IF you can find new drive belts for it 'cause the original ones will have turned to mush by now.

My parents and I flew to the US for Christmas/New Year 2004/2005 and soon after the new year our relatives decided to take us from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. But we left it just as CES was about to start, not that I could attend it anyway. I do remember going to the Venetian canals. Lucky you were able to attend.

I love seeing all those Boom Boxes, Tape decks, Record Decks, etc... Lovely bit of nostalgia getting a modern facelift. Would love, absolutely love, someone, anyone/company, to bring back a modern CRT using every bit of modern tech we've invented, since CRTs were last made. I'm sure someone could make extremely slim tubes, without the large footprints of past CRTs. Heck, would also love some kind of modern consumer Vector Monitor. But those are just dreams.
