That entire orchestra did such an amazing job! Huge props to the original 8-bit composers, as well as all those who converted the tunes to sheet music for the orchestra.

If I'm not wrong I believe that Rob Hubbard had originally intended his work to be played by an orchestra. It was mostly arranged by him for this performance. Absolutely stunning night it was.

Backed the project (and Symphony Pro) but never made it to the gig. Hull might've been awkward to get to from Northern Ireland but I had bad sciatic nerve pain at the time and sitting there for any length of time would've been too much!

What they did was a really lovely thing, but I was surprised not to hear Sanxion, or Warhawk, or indeed Delta - maybe they could have rolled them into 1 for a "shooter suite". But those are my favourites and it's a shame not even one of them was there. Really appreciated the Forbidden Forest one tho!
@c64audio2 жыл бұрын
Sanxion, Rob thinks it would be disappointing with an orchestra and refused to allow it anywhere near. Delta, Rob thinks there's "not enough musical meat", and Warhawk is someone else's... but you should check out 8-Bit Symphony Pro: Second Half pre-order for a lot more stuff.

Excellent, but I wish they had put a text box at the bottom of the screen to tell us what each song was from (and who the original SID author was, what game, etc). [edit: I guess I should have watched more of the video before commenting! Still, a time jump for each song would be cool.]

I'm think in fairness these don't do the originals justice. That's not to say that I think orchestrated arrangements don't or that all the pieces here are worthless but they could be better in capturing the essence of those mighty pieces. Some of it works beautifully and other parts less so. That said it's not the easiest of tasks Still I'm sure it was a decent night for all

The dr symphonic orchestra c64 medley kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIrEmqCBl5t5fpI was significantly better in my opinion, of course it's just a medley and the audio quality in this recording plays a part in it,. The studio versions are available for purchase only via the links in the description.

@@kke yeah it's all so wonderfully realised here. Fantastic. Interestingly only Shadowfire isn't 'borrowed' as I'm guessing Richard Joseph nodded heavily towards the great Conan the Barbarian score and both International Karate and Monty on the Run are 'borrowed' as well. I think they all sound significantly better as you say and Shadowfire is even more of a belter here. Thanks for the heads up
