Great exercises for targeting chromatic ideas. It’s also important to practice rhythmic vocabulary scale wise in order to avoid playing in 8th notes the whole time.

Yes totally agree. I like to encourage students how to fill up the space with notes first just because in my opinion that is a skill set that requires more practice. The thought is also that when you acquire that ability, leaving notes out and playing with rhythms becomes easier when you have more things to play under your fingers. Rhythm is equally, if not more important though when it comes to generating musical variety and interest!

I'll be shedding these. Something that I think is interesting about the major scale is the inherent symmetry. Of course, the formula is WWHWWWH, but many people dissect that into a series of 3 and 4 when they say it. If you think 3 1 and 3, you will notice that the center whole step is where the line of symmetry is drawn in the scale that makes all of the musical relationships possible.

The symmetry in odd groupings is a beautiful thing! I think that's part of why the 7 note scale is so popular also - always appreciate your insightful viewpoints!

Hey thanks so much! Its a Boston Sax E series. GREAT mouthpiece- I'm using a 9 tip opening in this video but recently switched to a 7* and have been very happy with it. I also really like the vandoren T series mouthpieces but prefer the Boston Sax piece because it has slightly more edge to it :)
