This reminds me of the famous quote about how "Common" decency isn't so common! So, so, so many people treat campsites as their own inexpensive party zone. I will never understand why so many people are so selfish when it comes to respecting others. Granted, the vast majority DO, but it only takes ONE obnoxious group to disrupt an entire campground loop!

I agree with you in everything and I’ll add some, EXTREMELY important to make sure your fire is COMPLETELY out before you go to sleep or leaving the campground, embers can travel long distance, a little bit of wind and it can spell disaster. In California a careless forest fire can actually land you jail time and I’m not taking a few nights, no to mention all other repercussions to people and wildlife.

Great list and great examples but let me mention a couple more. 1. RV air conditioners. We usually stay in campgrounds with electric hookups and so we’ve been annoyed more by RVs running air conditioners all night than generators. 2. Coleman gas lanterns. They are very BRIGHT! if you have one and your campsite is close to your neighbors, they may have a floodlight whether or not they wanted it. Thanks for the video.

This is why I have a reflector on my lanterns to keep the light on my area to the best of my ability. And speaking if rver's, I once had a guy running down a hill from his rv to where I was pitching my tent screaming I can't camp there because my tent is ruining his view. Instead of getting confrontational I relocated then informed the park ranger of the situation. About and hour and a half or so later that rv was being towed away and that guy was in the back of a law enforcement vehicle. Guessing he took it too far with the park ranger.

I have a good late night arrival and campsite crowding story. My family was all set up, tent picked in center of camp site, well into the night another camper showed up, probably after 2 am. They set their tent up right up against ours, they even went as far as pulling up two of our tent stakes and used them to stake their tent to ours. Then they hand the nerve to come out of their tent in a rage because we were up stoking the fire to start breakfast at 8 am.

every night at every public campground theres at least one thing that most people would be mind blown that someone did. but someone actually did it and thought it was normal. one time the main bathroom sink was clogged with someones food someone used the sink to throw away food instead of just using a trash bag or can hell leaving it on the ground at the campsite would be more respectful

We just got back from a camping trip where people, the entire campground, seemed to take the shortcut through our site. Until I had to wedge our car between two trees to block off the entrance. It really ruined our time. 5am til 11pm people just walking past our kids and out stuff. Not cool. This is a big one for me. Also, walking to the bathroom at night. Keep your flashlight aimed on the ground and not others campsites.

Like another commenter, I disagree with the "never arrive after dark" one. There have been times, whether planned or not, that we have had to arrive to a site after dark. Where we camp it is very common for at least 1 person to arrive after dark. That being said, there are respectful & disrespectful ways to do it. Keeping headlights off, not using floodlights & NEVER pointing them at other tents, keeping voices down & refraining from closing car doors over & over are important. As campers, we need to remember that campsites are public areas & we can't control the behavior of others. 🤷‍♀️

It all depends on the campgrounds rules for setup and takedown. My local state parks rules is no setup and take down between 11pm-6am. And for the people that really want peace and quiet and to be one with nature should start backpacking. When you’re truck camping just expect to be camping around other people and not everyone has good etiquette.

I have done quite a bit of nighttime backpacking. Some of the campgrounds were fairly populated. Out of all of the times, there were, like, two or three instances where I had a mini "accident" where I made quite a little noise that woke a few people up, for sure. Do you have any suggestions for maintaining silence (and darkness) and being a considerate night person in campgrounds?

It isn't always possible for us to arrive before dark. 🤷‍♀️ We do try to be as quiet as possible though.

That's bull. There is no way to not disturb the campers around you when you get there after dark. It's not rocket science to think to yourself, "how long does it take to get there and will it be dark?" And you don't have to camp in a busy public spot and arrive at night. There are many other options. You know a lot of campgrounds lock the gates at night because of shruggers like you.

@@itsmejerkface Not going to explain myself to you. Lol Some of us can't get off work early enough in the day to get there before dark. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop camping in state parks. 🤷‍♀️

I completely agree. There have been times when we have to arrive at night. We turn head lights off & keep door opening/closing to absolutely necessary times. Almost every time we camp there is a person who comes in after dark. It's the reality of where we live/camp. And there are definitely respectful and disrespectful ways to handle it. Also, after dark arrivals are NOT always planned. A good portion of ours have been due to emergency situations or unexpected delays during the day. It's important to remember, as ALL campers, that campgrounds are public places & we can't control the behavior of others.

@@itsmejerkface Can’t control traffic, highways, other drivers, accidents, undocumented construction, highway emergencies, undocumented detours, car trouble. Lots of things that can delay you from arriving on time. And at the moment where I live, it’s dark by 5:30 PM. Lots of camping in our area. If you don’t like people inconveniencing you, then perhaps don’t camp in public campgrounds. There are plenty of private campsites.

@@itsmejerkface wow, so touchy. There are many reasons why people get there after dark, as long as their car lights are off and they’re trying to be quiet I have no problem. Remember you don’t own the forest and respect goes both ways you should be understanding that people sometimes drive many hours to get there, do you expect others to get a hotel for the night so you don’t get disturbed?

Thanks for the list. I would add one more thing. Drone-free campsites. Don't fly a drone. If it were up to me, it would be open season on drones being flown in a camp ground.

I would ALMOST rather someone run the industrial generator while I'm sleeping (maybe cause I'm heavy sleeper), so at least I'm unconscious lol....my wife and I were at a site once and no exaggeration had one site to left, one to right and one in front and at few point all three had generators running at once, plus one to left was using site as temp hunting camp and had around 10 crated hound dogs barking and houling around 75% of time and the guy was constantly yelling at the dogs to SHUT UP!! We were basically laughing by the end of it
