This video is so true and i got a Filipina wife in uk and I get it. Im big on being kind and helpful but I can’t buy into the extent that Filipinos go to. Trouble is their kindness often gets abused. It’s like they’ve got a bowl of rice to their name and someone was hungry they’d share it and have half a bowl of rice.

I'd like to know where these guys saying Americans are not respectful grew up. I grew up with very close family, learned to be respectful and responsible. We were friendly with neighbors. The Philippines culture reminds me of the 1972 O'Jays hit album title song.

Love of Money (corruption) is a big religion in the US. Being late is disrespectful. Its nice that the family takes care of one another especially since the opportunities are slim in PI , but in the US there are opportunities so taking care of everyone encourages people to be slackers which I personally cant stand (excuses all the time) Great video Gary, how about a vid with Andrew on how Christians should watch what we say as far as profanities. This is such a cultural norm that even people who call themselves Christians are doing it. If we are to be ambassadors of Christ our behavior should reflect that. God Bless you and Leah

We American's have many accents (and, immigrants). The way America is going we should be more worried about English being the main language. The world is changing fast.

A couple of cultural differences that I just don't understand are 1) one spouse will move hundreds of miles away or even overseas to take some menial job, being separated form their spouse; I just don't see how you can have a real marriage if you don't live with your spouse or why you would subject yourself to all kinds of temptations to be unfaithful or why you would allow suspicions of unfaithfulness to be raised in your spouse. It seems even more senseless when the woman leaves her child a few weeks after it's born to go off and work far away. I've heard of at least one case of adultery as a result of this. It seems very difficult to live without physical affection from someone, either your spouse or a more convenient substitute. My sister-in-law's husband works 200 miles away at some stupid factory and only shows up once or twice a year; his kid doesn't even know him. He could make almost as much driving a tricycle or working on a farm here and he'd be with his family. I don't see the point of what he's doing since his expenses are greater in the city where he stays so that he's not saving money. 2) even though it's a Catholic country, so many kids are born out of wedlock. It isn't accepted here and yet it occurs so frequently. I just don't understand it. I know that some older women are desperate to have children but, the majority of case are in teenagers or those in their early 20's. And they don't learn from their mistakes, many will go ahead and have a second and even a third child with another man after the first one has abandoned them- only to be abandoned again. It seems so senseless. Often women live miserable lives, deep in poverty and become unacceptable to local men for marriage because of these kids.

@@americanchristianinphilipp960 Been thinking about it. Suppose the rate of premarital sex is about the same as in the United States. I hope not, or it doesn't say anything good about a "Christian" vs a basically secular country. But in the US. women have easy access to birth control pills and if a girl gets pregnant, she can get an abortion. Even if her jurisdiction doesn't allow it, she can always cross state lines. But In the Philippines, birth control is beyond access to many Filipinas and even if it's available, there may be some hesitancy to use it because of the teaching of the church. And there's no crossing over to another jurisdiction on an archipelago, A girl would have to leave the country and that's often impossible even if she has the means. Immigration is rather paternalistic from what I read and will often stops young women from traveling abroad if they're unmarried. Also, girls here seem to have their natural maternal instincts more intact that the materialistic American woman who doesn't want to let having a baby interfere with her education or career, so they abort with no more thought than they would when taking an antibiotic for the flu. I think some girls here with less hope for a career or education or options other than motherhood, have such a strong desire for a child that it overrules all other considerations. Also, some girls may be very naïve since sex education isn't a normal part of schooling and parents are usually too shy to talk to their kids about it in most cases.
