Just finished the tmb with my 15 year old son. It was the most fantastic experience . I didn't book most refuges until the pervious days and often , you can ask after the meal is served if you can upgrade to a better room (at cost). I describe most dormitories as either 'slave ship' long and close together , or 'concentration camp' - big dorms of up to 3 bunks high. Honestly speaking, the best night's sleep can be found camping....

Hi Justin. Found your channel when researching Ultralight tents. I enjoy your kind style of narration and hosting of videos! Congratulations on you and your wife completing this challenging hike. This was a real "marriage builder", and I hope you two can build on this as you move forward in your lives together. Praying the Lord will bless you both...

Hi, random outdoor (shoe) gear specialist from Amsterdam here: the backpain/achillespain could very likely (looking at Steph walking this entire vid) be because of using trail runners instead of boots. No stress, not sh1tty Merrels or whatever, but well-fitted German Lowa/Hanwag/Meindl depending on feet size/type/with and measured and advised in a high-end European non-chain outdoorstore. One of the awesome well-designed German mid-boots, fitted perfectly and maybe added insoles for further perfection let your feet-arch' tendons do their dampening work, giving the NO-fatigue effect Hokas pretend to have. Hokas are 'nice' in the way McDonnalds BigMacs are nice: easily obrainable and feel good initially but agrevate any back/achillis issues. German shoes are like real italian dinners in that regard. Especially now with the (congrats!) pregancy: the next time this or next year you as a family are in Europe, drop by to experience why 80mln people in the NW-Europe market don't wear trailrunners, when walking. Hiking shouldn't hurt but be perfect from the first step.

I’m in the middle of planning a very similar route and same number of days. This was really helpful and reaffirming from a planning standpoint , including gauging the physical effort in near identical start / stop points. Thank you! I am planning to push right through Trient from Champex and stay in Montroc. I know that will be a long stretch. I planned 2 more days after that to complete the loop.

Loved the video and the pace of the editing. Really enjoyed watching. Very interesting seeing you use almost all Decathlon gear. I found out about the value of Decathlon gear from your channel and since I've bought a couple fleece sweaters, a raincoat, and some other stuff and the quality is absolutely fantastic for the price. Not sure if I'd use their bags, tents, and packs but cool to see they offer almost everything.

It's called a cog train. If you look at the center of the track it has a rack that the train can drive itself with at steeper inclines than a normal train can. I rode a few while hiking in Switzerland. This looks like an awesome hike BTW. Can't wait to do it someday.

As a beginner hiker/backpacker and immediately starting in the Alps, I know how though these mountains are. Seriously mad respect for the both of you with all those kilometers and elevation 👌 Do you have any tips on how to train for these kinds of things? Because my distance isn't even close to what you guys are doing but that might be because mostly of the elevation. I'm from The Netherlands and this country is flatter than a pancake 🥲

When you were at the fork in the trail and deciding on whether to take the Fenetre d'Arpette, I was like, OMG, don't do it. But then... y'all did it! I started out from Champex that morning with the goal of getting to Trient via the Fenetre d'Arpette. That just about killed me. I couldn't imagine starting in La Fouly! Much respect! That was indeed a hell of a day. One burning question though - why didn't you go full circle back to Les Houches? I actually think the Chamonix-Les Houches leg was one of my favorites of the tour.

[2012] I stayed at Col de la Croix du Bonhomme, Bottom (horse poop) Level. The view from the deck, from late afternoon into darkness, was a Spectacular Evolution of light. Stayed also at Elizabetta Soldini. An IBEX herd gamboled by, in light rain. The "cord-wood" bunk arrangement at Soldini was a little weird - esp at TOP level. Overflow hikers were also sleeping in the entrance corridor. Lac Combal was basically drained/breached.

Great that you made a trip in Europe! And congrats on getting engaged :) you guys are very cute! Enjoying your video so far. Min 40: you're supposed to remove the skin of a salametto before eating it xD Just in general, please be aware that cows can indeed attack people, and when they do, they do it as a herd, which is not that much fun: happened to me when I was hiking in Canton Graubünden (CH) with my aunties, age 10 - scared the crap out of me! Since then, I always hike with extra caution in my lovely Swiss Alps xD Cheers from a fellow Swiss hiker-lady guys :)

KUDOS To You, Sir, for mentioning that Glacial Moraine (after Elizabetta Soldini) ! I'm a Geologist, and I noted that (from above) one could see the uneven/pitted/collapsed surface - from glacier melting Underneath the sediment. We did the LONG, Downhill (40-degree-slope stair-step) hike, All the way to Courmayeur. Not Recommended for people with average knees. But Pizza followed :)

got a weird question tho. There are a lot of brands for bottled water, Dasani, Evian, Aquafina, Fiji (my favorite). Why everybody only chooses smart water??? You can even choose coke, 7 Up, Fanta, Sprit, Pepsi if you only need the bottle......why Smart water so popular??? Almost feels like a Smart Water Bottle Cult for me 😅😅😅😅

They were sponsored by Decathlon so I’m guessing they were provided with the kit and clothing free of charge or at a heavily discounted price. They’re showcasing the brand hence why everything is Decathlon branded. I’m not sponsored by them but have used several of their products and I have to say, for the price point, it’s very good quality and well designed. Decathlon have a range of clothing aimed more at hunters/bushcrafters etc sold under the brand name Solognac (pronounced like the brandy cognac) also very good.
