I first came across Derek's teaching in 1982 and followed him until his death in 2003. I was blessed to see and meet him a dozen times from 1982 until 1992, but I continued to follow him and his ministry. Even today I have LOTS of video and audio cassettes of him. I had 3 favorite bible teachers but Derek was my favorite, because he covered it all and was faithful to the Word.

That’s one thing that has worried me for such a long time; the fact that I have too little an appetite for the word. I have this nagging worry that if I really am saved, I would have a strong appetite for the word of God. I’ve heard Paul Washer say that he really had to work hard to read the word. He said he had to read the verses several times in a row to try to remember any of it. I have little concentration in anything. I have had times though, when the word has comforted me, leaving me in tears, thanking God. I sometimes think there’s no reason why I shouldn’t want to read the word, so why don’t I ? Too often though, I have the thought that if I read the word, It’ll just tell me I’m not saved and probably won’t ever be saved. I am thinking nowadays that those thoughts are probably attacks from satan.

@@jazzman1626 1 Peter 2:2 says, desire the pure milk of the word so that you will grow (in Christ). In order to desire the word of God is you must be studying it twice a day, every day according to Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2. And pray over it every time you begin to study it. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand it, to bring light and give you heavenly anointed wisdom. It works for me every time. 😊👍 You may not get it at first immediately, but you will understand eventually. You have to be in His word twice a every day. And every time ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten it for you to understand and then over time, you'll get it and have a true hunger for His word. 😊 God bless and may He protect you wherever you may travel whether it be on foot or in a vehicle and give you heavenly anointed wisdom and understanding of His word. I will have to “stop listening to the devil” as Dr. Martyn Lloyd Jones once shouted from his train carriage to a frantic man running to catch up to him for advice. The devil has had me in fear of the word condemning me. I should have known better. I’m going to listen to the sermon again. I watched a couple of them with my wife. A couple of years ago, I never thought I’d hear my wife say “put it (the sermon) on the telly”, instead of the rubbish that was on the TV at the time! Thank you for your encouragement. U aren't saved bc u read the word, ur saved by the faith in the blood of Jesus. John 1:1 says, In the beginning was the Word(Jesus) and the Word( Jesus) was God and the word(Jesus) was with God. Jesus is the living word. To know Jesus personally ,u need to be in the word bc it's Him! It's like brushing ur teeth , u prolly do it at a certain time every day, same w/ the Word. Be disciplined & set a time & JUST DO IT! A spirit of omission is attacking you & is in your flesh. Confess & Repent of sins of omission bc ur omitting reading/ studying the word. I read the word out loud often and it truly does something quite special to you. It resonates more as you hear it come out of your mouth and it makes you feel this deep intense feeling inside. True, I am a lecturer at a university and I feel so sorry for many of these poor souls. Especialy when we sit in meetings, I see some professors with one foot in the grave, still trying to achieve something, the carrot satan put in front of the educated, its just sad. That was a gradual, but complete deliverence.

@bonniebrown1566 Hi Bonnie. My daughter is also Bonnie 💗 In 2013, I came under a spiritual attack by a very tormenting spirit of fear. Unfortunately, I've since found out that fear is a generational curse from my grandmother's family. It lasted a little over a year. Only God's grace got me through that time. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Got set me free from it when I heard a pastor quote the verse from Collosians that God has set us free from the dominion of darkness. From that day forward, I recovered a little each day until I was healed. Then in 2021, my husband and I flew to Ukraine and adopted a little boy with special needs. The adoption bureau in Ukraine was not honest with us about how severe his behaviors were, and when we got him home, I soon found out. He has severe self-harming behaviors. I had never seen anything like it, and I was not prepared for it. I began to believe that this adoption was going to destroy my family, and that caused me to have a severe panic attack, which opened the door once again to a spirit of fear. This time, the attack was even worse than the first one. I ended up having to spend a week in a behavioral hospital just to have some time away from my adopted son and to get a break from the debilitating panic attacks. When I got out, I realized that our son was not actually going to destroy my family. The panic attacks stopped, but I was still tormented every day. It's indescribable, what demonic torment is like. You have to experience it to understand. Only God's grace can get you through. I felt led to take communion every day and to declare out loud that my body, soul, and spirit belong to Jesus Christ. After a few weeks of doing that every day, I began to realize that it was weakening, and soon it was gone. My mother had experienced that exact same kind of attack years before. She couldn't eat and was rapidly weakening. My dad drove her to a deliverance ministry up in Michigan and that is how she was set free from it. For me, deliverance ministry didn't work, but God's word and taking communion did. I pray that no one reads this and begins to fear that something like this will happen to them. As I said, fear has plagued certain members of my family, and I believe it's a generational curse. May God bless you and give you deliverance from whatever you may need deliverance from.
