Steve, I really like your channel. I am a retired minister living in Baguio City, Philippines. My wife of 52 years died in 2020 (not of COVID), and I found myself unbearably lonely. God had mercy on me and brought a Filipino pastor's widow into my life and we married in 2022. I sold my house in Michigan and moved to Baguio. There have been many struggles for me, but God has brought me through them. I appreciate your mental health comments. My step-son here has a degree in mental health and gives lectures to various professional and governmental agencies. I love how you close with "God bless you." Without a relationship with God, life is much harder--not to say, without real meaning.

I was worried about my diminishing health numbers when I reached my fifties. I finally realized how I ate in my 30s and 40s wasn’t going to work in my 50s if I wanted to stay healthy. Avoiding added sugar in all foods (especially sodas) was my starting point. I know it’s difficult because it’s readily available in every fast food, restaurant, and sari-sari store but I only drink plain water now which made a remarkable improvement on my health. Improving your physical health will also improve your mental health.

I cut almost all sugar out of my diet and found my health improved 100 percent. I no longer take heart medication, have dropped 50 pounds, have much more energy. Do I get board only drinking water, of course so I drink coffee no sugar just milk and have maybe 3 beers San migal a week just for something different to drink. I'm 64 and haven't felt this good in 30 years.

True. Coke has many times more than the one tsp of sugar people generally put in their coffee (if they use sugar). The caffein level in Coke is also higher.
@6foot596
@6foot596 Жыл бұрын
@@ThomasLJones-dq5gqverything about Coke is so much worst than Coffee. I think a can of Coke has an insane amount of sugar like 37 grams. American Heart Association recommends males have no more than 36 grams in total of added sugar for the day and 24 grams for women. Black coffee with nothing in it has amazing benefits in moderation especially with the liver. People need to make better health decisions. Coffee by itself will always be a million times better option than Cola or any other soda. Bad decisions will lead older folks into a path of Type 2 Diabetes. It can be very preventable for most people with good self control of their health.

Steve helped me when I was hospitalized in 2022 and to date, I still am unable to walk. I continue to exercise, and my core strengthening has helped me tremendously. I had distectomy/laminectomy in 1998, and never been the same but doing crunches and leg lifts definately helped. The points Steve has made are essential to thrive in any society. We often forget how good and fortunate we Americans and Westerner's have lived. Not the same for many Filipinos, but they have a high pride and dedication to family and education like no other culture. This is what makes the Philippines a very special place. We have a long history here and men paid a high price for this ground. Honor & Respect it. 💖

Great commentary. I found that walking in the morning and spending about 20 minutes meditating, praying, or just putting my body and mind in a peaceful place is helpful. I also think it's best to give your advice when it's asked for, or if it will be a positive addition to the situation. If it's only for your self-esteem, keep your mouth shut.

And this, even though I was told I would likely not recover. Anything is possible if you believe in your body's God given ability to heal itself, do the work, and NEVER give up. All the best. Even though I am not a fan of going under the knife, it took away the Sciatica pain immediately. Of course you have your recovery time. But it was worth it to get rid of the extreme pain. 😊

Steve, that was great advice, or food for thought if you want to call it that. I need work on most of the list. Now I have one for you and anyone else with hip pain,. I tell it to everyone but I can't remember anyone that listened. I am still working as a tileman, it's a heavy trade. I have had aching hips since the early 90s. So here it is: Do some pushups every day. Do 15 if you can, everyday. If you can't do 15 do 5. Every day. I started doing that and the pain disappeared 90% within 3 days and stayed away. I don't know why it works but it does. And I'm not saying it will work for everybody, the pain might be something congenital. I do 29 every night now, 39 if I took the day off that day.

You are telling everyone what to do to be happy and live a healthy life, But Steve you have got to do what you preach, Put down the Coke, Coffee and the food that's causing over weight, you said you are also dealing with the mental issues with your health problems....."Get some help" Also if a Expat don't want to speak "it's his choice" He's not over there to be with the other Expats.....I clearly understand your points, but you have to take care of yourself and be careful who you deal with. Some Expats are trouble makers, act like they know everything in the country, and they really don't. Thank you for the points and you take care of yourself.

One of your best videos ever…. And I’ve seen probably 50, I smile and laugh and clown, and say good morning to every single person that I make eye contact with… which is hard at times because 87% of people are staring at their phones, but it’s all good, I don’t have a job or family or kids or stress, which is why I have no reason not to smile and be kind to every person I interact with!! Thanks again Steve, you’re a champion!

I really admire what you have done over there Steve. Mental health issues are everywhere and I can relate to many of those experiences here in the US. -- I was 'professionally diagnosed' years ago as being in the top 2% with my "perceptions" and I can tell you it's a lonely place ! I have also found being seen as "keenly aware, exceptionally astute, and. extremely well grounded in reality" as more of a curse than a blessing many times. Often I have envied those in complete bliss and unable to see the ugly reality or truth of situations. -- We can't quit or give up as you have said. Your efforts are surely helping some people who need what you offer ! -- "Live long & prosper."

A few things that is a little annoying is when driving in the PI is 1) the motorcycle and scooter drivers are the most dangerous and inconsiderate drivers in the world, they think everyone is suppose to watch out for them and it’s ok to cut right in front of you and they immediately stop right in the middle of the road to talk to their friends at a road side store even when the road is bumper to pumper traffic, so everyone has to try and go around them and they NEVER use turn signals 2) pedestrians NEVER LOOK before walking right out in front of you when your driving. Their motto is walk out in front of traffic and then look after they honk at you. I almost hit a kid yesterday because he was walking on the shoulder and just spun around and walked right in front of me without even looking, if I had been new to this country I would have hit and probably injured him very badly but I was watching him closely and I was able to lock up my brakes and swerve and barely miss him. 3) trying to enjoy my family time at one of the many tourist attractions and having conversations with my family when I will get swamped with beggars, they will pass 10 Filipinos just to interrupt my family time and stick their hand in my face. I had one beggar walk up and grab my bag and stick his hand out. I slapped his hand away and told him don’t ever grab my bag again. He walked past another bunch of Filipino’s and never once bothered them for a hand out. Now some nice things to say. I have never seen so many cute little children as these Filipino children are. They have cute personalities and are very friendly. I carry mostly large bags of DIPS (m&m’s) in my bag and I hand them out to the little children constantly. The parents are always a little shocked but also very grateful and the little kids just act like I handed them a $1,000 lol 😂 the adults are very courteous (unless they are driving and as stated before quite possibly the rudest and most selfish drivers in the world) they also will help in any way they can. They will try to speak some English even if they struggle with it. It truly is a paradise except for the roads which are hell lol 😂

@@B_Tama I don’t mind if they have a death wish, but don’t try to sue me or demand a crazy amount of pesos when you walk right out in front of me. That’s why I would advise EVERY expat to have cameras installed all the way around your vehicle like I have. Also tint your windows to the darkest you can get so that they can’t see if it’s a foreigner or a Filipino driving so you don’t become a target to these people. I realize I’m in a foreign country but I also have the right to enjoy leisure time with my family without being harassed and I also have the right to not put my family in danger by some psycho on a motorcycle or scooter. ITS CALLED COMMON COURTESY AND MANNERS !!!

Great rules. Do any of the bases there see VA patients? I love Coke! It is worse than coffee because the high fructose corn syrup is many times sweeter than sugar. Twenty ounces of Coke might require 30 oz of sugar to equal the same sweetness. It is poison, but sooooo good, especially when ice cold. Life is about the tradeoff of quality vs. quantity.

Just another comment since you brought up that sub. I heard reports today that the navy heard that sub being crushed on their underwater mics on sunday. Why would the govt keep that a secret until yesterday and let the search continue? I find that very disgusting and disturbing if that is true just to bury other headlines!!

Steve, I Really Hope You Aren't Judging These People Simply Based on The Fact They May Not Smile or Be As Outgoing As You. You've Heard The Word Before I'm Sure " Introvert" . Introverts are Totally Misunderstood, and Maligned. Shy People not A Great Deal Of Difference Between The 2 . For Some, Its Really a Struggle to Put Themselves Out There. If You Run Into These People, It Could Take Repeated Effort on The Outgoing Person to Break Thru. Introverts Typically Will Have 1 to 3 Close Friends that It Took Them Years To Get to Trust. They Aren't Huge Fans of Parties or Large Gatherings( Yet, Can Feel Hurt if Not Invited). They Aren't Huge on Putting Themselves into Public Spotlight.

Those Filipinos and foreigners who create unnecessary enemies by being sneering and prideful ("mayabang") wouldn't like it when they get targeted for revenge by some unknown locals.

Avoiding negativity is big. That's why I'm not there. I could not find what I had hoped for there. So many guys spoke of finding romance which is why I tried. But, that's not even close to what I experienced. I expected the romance to have financial elements geo-maxing. But, I wasn't prepared for it being 100% financially motivated. Also, the heat and infrastructure just didn't work well for me.

An older guy looking for romance or true love is going to be extremely difficult there, especially when looking for a younger partner. We're being seen as a walking ATM and many girls there see us as nothing more than a smelly, old foreigner with money to spend. Most of the westerners I met there accept it as a transactional relationship but once their money runs out, they'll know their true value.
@bobbruce4135

@@garyzies3486 Truth. But, I tried this first just out of college and had the same results. The selection (quality) was better. The problem is I'm non-traditional in any respect and seek an emancipated DINK lifestyle which was a total deal-breaker. They all still wanted marriage, babies, sending money home, etc. I was still a walking ATM.
@garyzies3486

@@bobbruce4135 It's a fact! Most Filipinas don't want a life without kids. DINK lifestyle is incompatible with traditional Filipino culture. On top of that, most Filipinas will bend over backwards to support their families. It's a culture clash that often causes many problems in Fil-Am relationships.

Have you considered looking for educated and professional Filipinas who are into DINK lifestyle? Most of my Filipina friends actually don’t want kids so I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of them in our generation (Millennials btw)
@bobbruce4135
@bobbruce4135 Жыл бұрын
@@CharnelWhispers Yes. Actually, thought I had found it (sort of). But, after the petition to the west (my undoing), it was all just for the green card (like a permanent OFW position with much higher pay than the middle east). And, it was all about sending money home too. Perhaps, if the beneficiary is male (boys aren't as obligated to the family) and there's actual romantic love (boys are more romantic) that could work. Girls only fake (project) romance (because it's what baits boys). Evolutionary psychology 100.
