Hello we are Geb and Ryne, we are a gay couple who traveled from the USA to the Philippines and are now permanently residing in BGC, Manila! In this vlog we chat about the experiences we have that shocked us culturally since moving to Manila, Philippines! We moved to the Philippines about 7 weeks ago and we are continuously learning about the Pinoy culture. We absolutely are so in love living in the Philippines and getting to experience all of the filipino food and well known lifestyle.

Thanks for showing to the world that the Philippines is a fairly nice country too. Gone are the days when foreigners thought of us as a backward civilization 👍 thanks for spreading the vibes🙂

Accidentally discovered your channel. I was originally from the Philippines. My parents moved me and my 3 siblings in 1973 here in Ohio......I was 16 then. Now I’m retired and thinking to move back there. Philippines has changed so much since then. Except for the traffic, but I think by the look of it, it got worse. There are more people driving their own vehicles now. Back in the day, more people were using the public transportations. Really enjoyed your vlog and hope to see more. Have a great day.

I'm thinking of moving in the Philippines, but I feel I will miss some areas in NY and some places in other states. Though, I love the sunny & rainy weather in the Philippines. I love the people in the Philippines. The traffic in Manila is absurd at times, but once you get to your destination, it's actually worth it. 😅 My favorite places are BGC and Tagaytay. My favorite hotel is Shangri-La at The Fort and the Peruvian restaurant called Samba. Balesin island in Polillo, Quezon is nice as well.

The reason your skin looks good in the Philippines is the high humidity it rehydrate your skin removing all the toxins when you sweat or perspiring while im here in London my skin gets very dry and chappy even how much moisturizer i use only little difference but when i go on holiday in the Phil in changes emmediately after 3 or 4 days big difference thats what ive notice good youknow it by now keepvlogging we will be watching every content you upload stay safe.......

Also the Filipino culture and practice is very "patriotic" in the sense that we have this slogan "MAHALIN at TANGKILIKIN ang SARILING ATIN" meaning LOVE and PATRIONIZE PHILIPPINE PRODUCTS. We also have another constant slogan ad "BUY LOCAL."

During the pandemic, I started vid chatting with a guy from the Philippines. I have never been so in love. He came out to his family and introduced me to them (a BIG deal for him). I cannot imagine my life without him. I hope to visit him soon so we can begin the k-visa process . I do worry a little tho, that he is going to have a disappointing culture shock when we marry, as my family is such a different dynamic than what he is accustomed too. Any advice, guys?

Hi! We’re so happy for you that you found true love! We both experienced very different family dynamics with each other’s families, and it is still an adjustment sometimes. Our advice would be simply for both of you to keep an open mind and remember that your love is more important than any distractions that might arise 💕 always make the other person feel as if they are understood and their feelings are considered especially during the uncomfortable culture shock experiences! Thanks for watching and best of luck to you and your love!

about the customer service thing in the Philippines, most staff especially on department stores are all concessionaires, every company brands have their own salesperson assigned at any store branches (they are not a direct employee of the store), and those concessionaire salesperson are forced by their brand company to make more sales, so sometimes you may encounter that they all compete for a customer, especially if you’re looking for a one item and there are many brands to choose with its own salesperson on that store, because that’s what their company told them to do to get more sales or else they will be replaced because they’re not that effective on selling, they were forced by their company to make more sales because their company is also paying rent on the space alloted to them by the store and they also pay the salary of their own salesperson, so their company need more sales so the company will get back all their expenses on each store because the store takes 30% of the sales on each concessionaire brands plus the rent for space inside the store..

I would just like to point out that specific observation of yours about FILIPINOS TAKE PRIDE IN WHAT THEY DO. The reason for this is because we are raised and taught by elders that YOU SHOULD LOVE and BE PROUD of WHO you are and WHAT you have in life. My mom would ALWAYS REMIND me to always take care and respect the people who serve you. Once you belittle someone because of his/her job FILIPINOS WILL RAISE their EYEBROWS in protest to your action, we don't tolerate that kind of behaviour from anyone.

Please still follow the traffic regulations you are used to. If ever you encounter a minor accident it is more beneficial on your side that you followed the regulations. And dashcam is a must, The rules is always in consideration whenever there are accidents on the road. The big difference here and in USA is that Police are not the one who gives traffic violation tickets we have what we call the MMDA's who can flag or stop you anytime BUT they are not allowed to carry guns and they cannot arrest you. They can call a police though for settlement issues or if there are crimes involved.

Like another commenter, I met a Filipino guy online just before the pandemic while we were both working abroad and our plans to meet were thwarted one week after the onset of covid and the travel bans. Since then we have stayed in almost daily contact and finally plan to meet in PI later this year. You stated that being gay is accepted there but is that in general or mainly in Manila. Maybe the provinces are a different story. I would def be interested to hear more about this subject. Thanks

Speaking about traffic and driving in the Philippines I would not dare drive in Manila but I do drive in my hometown Albay when I am visiting however compared to the US driving and traffic rules as I do drive here in Phoenix I could say based on my experience that I see more accidents happening here in Phoenix or other big cities in the US because the people here always think if I’m am in the right and you’re in the wrong I will hit your car even though it can be avoided they won’t let you in specially if you are merging no courtesy as long as they are in the right but in the philippines I notice that drivers there specially in Albay will let you through even if they have the right of way but these are only based on my own personal experiences and observations and it may not be true to all thanks and Go bless you both stay safe and I will keep tuned in for more videos from your channel!!

I love your channel, you guys are so entertaining. I haven't been back in PI since we left for US when I was 9 in the late 80's. Planning to go back next year. I visited Thailand with my Thai hubby and was quite surprise by their infrastructure. We were able to get around Bangkok with their efficient train and river boat system. Their bullet train to Chiang Mai will be operational this year. Does the PI have a train system or mostly taxis to get around?

New subscriber here from Canada! Nice meeting you both too haha Proud to be a Filipina but I totally agree with the processing of any govt/banking documents takes too long and too many steps even just renewing a driver’s license. Again I also about the driving there is not what I’m used to but you know what? It’s crazy but I’m amazed how good of drivers there are there. Here in Canada, well in the city I live in anyway, there are annoying drivers here. They can’t even change lane properly lol So many accidents that our insurance went up the roof! I love love love the customer service there. There’s always someone to help you in any dept. and always so friendly, respectful and always smiling. Also they will go out of their way to make sure you leave the store satisfied. They sure know their stuff. From my experience anyway. Thank you for sharing your experiences and life there. My husband and I are seriously thinking of living there too someday. Hopefully it happens. Cheers 🥂

Traffic Rules in the Philippines are mere suggestions🤣 But kidding aside, it is actually a sad thing because I think mostly out lack of understanding of the traffic rules as most drivers in the Philippines didn’t take formal driving lessons and a lot easier to secure a Drivers license.

Thank you so much for watching! We have gotten a few comments about this topic so we will have to make a separate video on it! But to answer briefly, it is way more socially acceptable to be gay in the Philippines compared to in the US! Tho it is legally more accepted to be gay in the US through gay rights like marriage and anti discrimination laws :)

@@gebryne7978 yes, many filipinos agree in a union of same sex couples in order for them to have the same benefits as married people under the church. To be clear with my statement, many filipinos do not agree with allowing same sex marriage under the church. Does that make sense?

I've been to the US two times in two decades. I felt the people did NOT behave as if their country is "first" world. I felt as if it was oppressive. LA Calif has one of the most incompetent people around especially the LA airport. Grrrrrrr. Just telling the truth. I would consider the US overrated with first class infrastructure and third class citizens

just bcoz you have traffic problems there in Manila that doesn't mean its like that in the whole Ph NO!! traffic situation differ depending on the place where you are at, some cities in Ph impose strict rules like in Davao City for example, try not following traffic rules there 😎😎 and also try not to generalized everything like what you've experienced there is what's the rest of Ph is doing, some Filipinos hate that.
@gebryne7978
@gebryne7978 2 жыл бұрын
Hello :) Thank you for your input. We are mostly talking about our experiences in the Philippines personally :) And we always follow traffic rules whether we are in the US or elsewhere 🤗 This video is not generalizing rather, let’s say you have only been to 1 state in the US which has 50. All 50 states are completely different from each other but a person who has visited only one state in the US can make a safe assumption within a video of what the rest of the culture is going to be like for the US :) Sorry you feel that we have generalized but we are only just sharing our personal experience upon moving to the most populated city in the entire Philippines. Thank you for watching 🤗

speaking of bank employees in the US, i just watched the news about the director of Black Panther and his Filipina companion (or partner) getting arrested juat because the bank teller freaked out when ahe suspected something was off with the customer's request without even verifying the account holder's info or account. i know it's protocol or something Americans are used to but i guess, use your common sense first and yoir being human before you put someone in danger or public humiliation. but i guess it's not uncommon there and with the crime rate spiking in the US...maybe that's what triggered her.
