Honestly I love this. 1. A non-standard engine with parts someone could find. 2. Some NA and boost dyno results to show before and after. I wonder what 10psi would have looked like? Would it still be driveable? Please do more odd style engines, its fun to see how NA to boost affects them.

Those poncho 350's have always been kind of underrated. I've seen them run just as rowdy as a 400 with just mostly a head and cam swap. I had a 350 69' firebird I eventually did a 400 swap. After all the time and money, I couldn't really tell much difference. I now have a cheap 326 I paid $150 for. I've thought about building it for boost. Maybe try to fab up or modify a intake set up like that came on the turbo T/A 301's. But probably easier and safer to just go with aftermarket fuel injection. Just a set of modern aluminum heads and a nice roller cam setup. That lil 326 would outrun my Ram 3 400 But the best part If I blew it up I'm not really out much vs imploding one of my 400's or my 428. The prices people are asking for even the mid/late 70's low compression 400's over the last few years is almost as ridiculous as the recent inflated prices at Mcdonald's.

It doesn't have to work perfect, it just has to work! Stock cam and boost are always great for mid-range power...and in most cases makes more than a typical hot NA setup.

I love these Pontiacs and rebuilt several as my first engine projects. The 350, 400 and 455 are all the same engine. Almost identical except bore X stroke so those extra heads will fit any of the 3. 2.11 and 1.77 good sized valves on the 6x’s if memory serves from 30 years ago. Lower rpm range than a Chevy but lots of power for its era. Excellent video!

Yeah but it requires a balance, some lighter pistons and a girdle on the bottom or it will scatter its guts with those windowed mains. Also stock heads are garbage. Great engine to warm up and fantastic bore/stroke ratio, but there are tons of real world examples of them scattering rods. I saw a guy named Cody that worked for Joe Mondello build one NA to 628 HP with Edlebrock heads (I think) and that was dicey. He offset ground the crank to accept Chevy rods, custom pistons and put a raunchy solid flat tappet in it.

@atenooie
@atenooie 9 ай бұрын
@@maxpower479 I start on the 2-step at about 2500 rpm with 2,5psi. As soon as I let go boost will increase. 2800 rpm - 3,5 psi 3500 rpm - 5,1 psi 4250 rpm - 7,5 psi 5000 rpm - 8 psi 5400 rpm - 8,6 psi This was with a soft spring With a harder spring it looked like this. 2400 rpm - 2,1 psi 2-step Run 2800 rpm - 3,4 psi 3400 rpm - 3,9 psi 3900 rpm - 6,3 psi 4600 rpm - 10,5 psi 5000 rpm - 13,4 psi 5200 rpm - 16 psi This is from my data logs. Please remember that my car is very lightweight. If your vehicle is heavier it can show more boost earlier in the rpm range. My build is pretty simple, log manifolds made from mild steel, GT45, 50mm wastegate l, 50mm blow-off valve, fi-tech 600 PA, ring gap increased, beefed up valve springs. Return of the turbo drain in the old fuel pump location so I did not have to drill the oil pan.

Get a 750 holley dp, replace the brass floats, get the weakest power valves you can find, drill out the powervalve bypass holes a couple bits, jet up 5 sizes (or so), make sure you've got a fuel pump/regulator that can supply 1:1 fuel/boost ratio, those are the basics, there are a lot of other things you're gonna wanna do, like vent extensions and whatnot. bottom line, is you need a wideband to tune with or you'll be making aluminum crumbles quickly.

Richard, does the distance from the exhaust ports to the turbine inlet actually have a lot to do with turbo lag? I'm really considering a turbo in the bed of my truck vs under the hood is why I'm asking. I keep recalling proper turbo sizing is key in all your turbo videos, and not much about placement.
@truckfreak4537
@truckfreak4537 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know about lag but I got halfway thru a rear mount turbo project and ended up moving it to the engine bay. There’s more room in the bed, but running the exhaust and intake tubes all the way to the front is a huge pain. Lots of leaks and trying to rout stuff around frame rails. Unless your putting a 454 in a mini truck you’re better off just making some room in the engine bay (or cutting a hole in the hood!)
