I think that is truly one of the problems in overlanding, we get so gear oriented in the newest and greatest. That isn't necessarily a problem if you enjoy and nerd out on the gear but don't let it hold you back from going on trips and enjoying the gear you already have. Couldn’t go to Moab without going up there again. Pretty sure I passed brad in the red Jeep on 128 on our way back to town matter of fact. Then spent a day checking out the parks with her and took a trip monument valley and the 4 corners. Also checked out valley of the gods. I can say for sure she gets it now. On the ride home she was asking when and where we’re going jeeping next lol.

I think back on my youth in the late 60s and 70s, my dad bought a used F150 and built a homemade camper. We hiked and camped all over the coast range primarily but a bit in the Sierras, even took it to Michigan one summer. No lift, no big tires, heck no offroad tires. We weren't in the middle of nowhere but sometimes we went hours between seeing other cars. Comparing what we had to todays equipment I am lucky to be alive. But we also were careful and did not push what we did have.

I went solo out to Blair Valley and then up to the S22 and dropped into Grapevine Canyon, Yaqui Wells Rd, then up to Anza Borrego so I could get a patch of the state park. Never even aired down. Be careful out there. The rattlers are starting to come out of their dens. I just about stepped on one as I was checking out a view. Little bugger was just sitting there warming up in the sun. BTW, to dispersed camp in Cleveland NF, you have to call the ranger district office and get a free overnight permit. They will email it to you...each peasy. You could also stop at the office to get one. No open fires, unfortunately.

You may have made a video on this in the past and I’m relatively new to the channel, but what do you look for in a suitable camping spot?
@TrailRecon2 жыл бұрын
You should plan a trip, the Gladiator is a great overland/road trip truck! I'm not picky about camping spots, generally I just want something flat, can accommodate at least 2 vehicle and some protection from the elements. Time distance on my trips usually dictates what camping spots I select.

We recently went to Merus Adventure park and that was what I would consider my first actual legit off roading adventure. Everything before that just seems like dirt roads and beach sand. Merus definitely gave me a confidence boost. I love GAIA. It is basically all I use. It has everything I need so far. Attitude is the one thing that you have total and complete control over. No matter what happens, you can control how you react to it. Keeping a positive attitude can be challenging at times, but in the long run it will serve you so much better than the alternative. Bacon is never just a "Small Part"...lol...no matter how much you use, it always has a huge impact. I love that you used broth to boil the pasta. I am one of the few people I know that does this but it is a game changer over plain water. Also when making rice!

Was thinking boy that jeep sounds good. Then realized it was the 392. (Of course it does)

LOL! I'm loving the 392 tone, maybe someday the JK will sound that good!

@@TrailRecon Had the first year of the 392 in my 2011 Challenger GWE Always thought that was a great sounding engine! So glad the stuffed one in a Wrangler.

Great videos. You mentioned you retired from the Military. Navy? I was in the Army for 26 years. Retired in 03. Looking forward to retire again and hit the trails. Do you think a 23 Chevy 2500, 4X4 diesel could make it on the trails? I still need to get it upgraded for back country camping, but looking forward to hitting all the National Parks and a lot of State Parks.

Another fun trail rating vid! We've been on this trail a few times now. It's one that just jumps to the top of the list when we don't want to do a lot of pre-planning and just wanna go get off road. Man... I love the sound of the Magna Flow exhaust and that 392. Wonder if I can get that sound out of my 2.0L LOL

Hey Brad! I remember you saying a little bit ago you wanted mopar high tops for your 4 door wrangler, I’d recommend the MCE fender flares, they look very stock and are flexible so they won’t snap like other plastic flares. Not sponsored just a friendly suggestion if you’re still looking for flares!

Thanks, I'll look into those.
