I'll show you in eight minutes how to setup a dedicated Minecraft Server for you and your friends including making your server public without port forwarding.

Would you know how to play Minecraft 1.6.1 multiplayer? I couldn't do it despite using port forward and crafty does not have Minecraft servers with version 1.6.1 :( is it over for 1.6.1 multiplayer?

I'd probably download the 1.6 server jar outside of Crafty, then start it locally on your machine, once it's generated chunks I'd stop the server, then zip the directory and then use Crafty's server import feature- upload your zip, input the server jar name set your ram and kick it off to see if it runs.
