After retiring after 15 yrs a personal money counselor I am so happy you are discussing this reality, this is IMO a big fear that keeps people house locked that no one speaks of. ALL retirees even though they think they have thought of this reality but when actually living it still shocks them and it takes time to adjust. Organization in all things is key to prevent stress. Once newbie RV'rs get over the 'vacation' mentality eating many meals in restaurants, then they do seem to utilize healthier home cooked meals and many full timers seldom eat out.

Woe, I'm glad I came across your video... I've started off 5 mostly. Ago as a Nomad, ever since been doing nothing but Boondocking.. that's way to stressful. The reason I haven't got to NOMADIC mode is cuz I ran out of my SSI money. So watching this video will help, even if I have 2 read it over and over again. I've been homeless back in the day never had to panhandle... that did not help my selfasteem..ha. What I would like to do, is go to Nevada somewhere nice all year and fill my van with gas. Months worth of needs, don't go bak to town only for an emergency. The reason I bought this van is to tell my landlord and neighbors to to piss off, and the rest of Ft.Collins, Colorado... so 4, 5 most. I haven't been out of Colorado. I'm going to save this video.Sorry for this long comment, b safe

This is the first video of yours I've watched, but I have subscribed, so I will be watching more. But I had to say this, your smile documents just how happy you are, how free you are, it's as if we the viewers can see the weight that's been lifted off you. You're a true testament to how less can most certainly be more. I'd love nothing better than to be one with nature, waking up to a different scenic backyard, in a different place, unfortunately I don't drive, but when my hearts truly ready, something will work out for me. In the mean time, keep on keepin' on, continuing to enjoy the journey that's now your life. Namase

debistogs you have the chance to make changes before having to move into your car! Some people find out last minute and are unprepared. Follow Christine's good advice but Trade the car in for a good used van as soon as possible while you still have income or credit. Then you can take your time building it out but you have a decent roof over your head and a place to sleep and keep your personal stuff while still being mobile. If you are renting but know you are going to be moving out or are being evicted, don't pay another dime on anything, just get the van. Beg or borrow!! Lol! Of course I don't know your situation, but I hope you can do it! Many women like Christine are doing well in a van.

It is always important to have an emergency fund for repairs, health care challenges that arise etc, but I want to emphasize how important it is if you have a pet. Many people who travel alone enjoy the company of a pet. Please know how important it is to budget for emergencies that may arise when you have a pet. VET bills are expensive. If you are going to have a pet it is your responsibility to take care of them. Be really aware of what they eat. Lots of times pets ingest things they shouldn't when they are out and about. It can cause lots of problems with their digestive system.......which in turn can cost you lots of money in VET bills. If you are not able to afford a pet, please do not get one. It can bring you lots of sorrow if they need something you can't provide.

Great tips, Christine. I've been dry-docked in a 32' RV for 6 years now, saving and simplifying and learning to do many of the things you talk about. Budgeting and staying organized in particular. I'm a few years away from retirement, but I just bought a Safari van, and am heading off in a month for a cross-country road-trip. I'll be camping free and stealthy and just trying it all out, I plan to get a bigger van when I do pull the plug in a few years. Your tips are going to be top-of-mind on this journey. Thanks for sharing.

The NOAA weather radio I have is very small uses 3 AAA batteries I can leave it on for an alert. I keep a shit ton of batteries on hand because I use them all the time I wear a headlamp at night burn them batteries that is what they are for a lot cheaper than an injury. That weather radio is by itself I have 2 other radios that I can get weather on. I also have a shortwave radio that radio is the best reception I have ever gotten. IT is a tecsun 660 pricy radio sort of but for what it does it is the best price for that class of radio. Tecsun 660 uses AA batteries I think 6 of them that radio is nearly $100 because it has SSB USB LSB and can be used to hear airplane radio traffic.

Great tips! Lots of good info! I've been doing many of those things already while in my apt. But, because my resolve is so much more stronger to get out of here now and into a van, I am rethinking absolutely everything I do now, as if I were in my future van. So this way I'm 'practicing' for my future lifestyle, and that should make adapting easier in the long run. (Smooth jazz is my go to music too : ) I have been using the Spending Tracker app for a long time now, and it helps tremendously! I'm super careful about wifi, because it's too easy for hackers. Many times if I need to, I use the library for wifi. I'll also put aluminum foil between my tablet & its case to block hackers as well. I also protect my passport and any cards that way too.

Hi christine, thanks to you I just ordered a sangean pr-d5 am/fm portable radio. Works on 110v or bat. No on youtube mentions it has a 9v dc plug in on it. I ordered a Artista regulated dc adaptor for it because a car is 12v, so you have regulate the dc v. Reg. cost 5.99 from amzon. These radios are one of the best of any radio with picking up am radio because of the 200 mm ferrite antenna bar inside the radio. Hope this might help someone, thanks

Instead of post cards, they have these magnets in the shape of different states that I noticed a lot of the RVer's or Van-Dwellers buy. They even have a large one of the U.S., like a map, that you can put your individual states on, in their appropriate place. Just noticed on other people''s KZbin videos - I really enjoyed yours and God bless.

I would love to have magnets, but I have no metal to attach them to! All plastic, wood and cloth inside "Cinnamon Girl "! Thanks you so much for your kind comments and watching the videos!

Fantastic, I would love to do seasonal trips for 3 - 6 weeks at a time about twice a year in good weather for the next 20 years or so just to keep in practice before doing it full time. By the time I reach your age the plan is to have a modest rental lot for someone with a modular home, where I can commandeer the back yard to park in twice a year, once for the coldest sixty days of winter and once for three months in summer while backpacking abroad. The rest of the year I would be on the road handing out noise makers for impromptu jamborees making friends. It would all depend on finding a no fuss renter, a bit of cheese from uncle sam and my health keeping up pace.
