Drag Race has that working class struggle that appeals to a mass audience; the pathos of escaping an intolerant world only to end up being harshly critiqued by your own community. WeHo seems to perpetuate the Velvet Rage myth that gay men must be smuggly upper-middle class and constantly the center of attention to be happy. With housewife shows there's at least an implicit commentary on the Feminine Mistique, but this seems smug and beige. It might be better if Michelle Visage appered at the end of each episode to summarily judge everyone's life choices.

The thing is I'm not that upset about the 40 minute episodes, its the fact that they decided to do it with the biggest cast yet and made the editing far more difficult to watch with major jumps and lack of screentime for all the queens, especially on "the biggest snatch game yet" being quite literally the shortest with 20 seconds of a runway. It will ease up toward the final episodes with less queens, but they set up this season with arguably one of the best cast

I said this on reddit but I'll be 100% honest, if they gave this show literally any other time slot (either before drag race or after untucked) I don't think fans would be half as mad since it wouldn't have felt like it was taking up show space/people wouldn't feel like they're being tricked into watching it. If they had done that, and actually cast Willam (she had auditioned but didn't get in, thing is the drag race fandom would be way more likely to watch if she was there), maybe they could get more of their target audience. It was a bad initial move, and made a lot of people mad, but it didn't have to be as much of a disaster as it was. But I haven't watched the show so for all I know it's fine. Just could have had a better launch/better scheduling

But I definently feel for the other cast members who were lied to, and who had hated directed at them because of the change in time. But, yeah, the show wasn't diverse at all. I mean it is great that there are black cast on there, that it isn't just a whole bunch of white gays. But if it has to be men, where are bisexual/pansexual men, ace/demi men, trans men? I get that the show has "gay" in it, but gay has been used as an umbrella term for ages now. I just, this show could've been good, but it just felt weird trying to cash in on LGBTQIA+ experience for what? And then we have Drag Race where it's the biggest cast yet, though the episodes are cut down to 40mins, you really lose a lot of drama, and a lot of character with the shorter segments, that now that it's back to the full 60mins, it's going to get a bit boring with only 6 cast members.

The Real Housewives franchise work in a way, for that reason people love it. The real friends of We Ho doesn’t work for different reasons. 1 they name is fake they aren’t friends they could be friends like dogs and cats. 2 if What Dorian said during the interview is real that mean MTV lie and manipulate them or at least Dorian. 3 We Ho ( I don’t wanna write the entire name every time ) try to use the formula of The real housewives, at least from the scene I saw to me look like this, if I’m wrong I will do modifications on my comment. 4 Housewives ( same as write before ) show the lives of the members of the cast there family and what is best the frights, the feuds, and the drama between them, for that reason work.

It’s just bad…a comment for each cast member…Host, Arrogant, Self Hating, Boring, Self Obsessed, Most to Lose/Gain. Oh yea and the show it totally fake and doesn’t even try…😮

Why would you need to take away from drag to make room for this housewives knock off? There is barely anything worth watching on MTV.

That whole overview of what Todrick said seems so shady and manipulative on Todrick's part. Like it's full of logic fallacies and conveniently leaves out details. I do think that the 40 minute episodes are not their fault and it's just because of MTV's lineup and the fact they got squished in there. But to deflect criticism by saying people should be happy to have representation? Idk if he's just parroting, but I've noticed this pattern of deflecting criticism within media for a while now. "Why do we need representation? For the sake of representation." That's a circular argument and it's being used against us more than you think. Representation is not a about the numbers, it's about quality and variety. And a fake reality tv show called the "real friends," being put in between drag race and untucked in order to force viewership, understandably, will receive a lot of criticism. I just think it's directed at the wrong people and I don't think the people at MTV realized how rabid these drag race fans are lol. Or maybe that's exactly what they wanted in order to get the show attention.
