I literally wear the same thing everyday. Black shirt with jeans and sneakers. Fortunately, my current situation affords this luxury, but I still get the occasional jabs at my "style" from daily acquaintances. I love when I'm asked if I own 7 black shirts so I can proudly respond with, "Yes!"

Ralph Nader bought about a dozen pair of shoes on clearance that lasted him 25 years. He was a conscientious objector to fashion. I think Einstein wore the same outfit every day. Things like this free up a lot of time. When I'm done with a piece of clothing, if it's not good enough to donate, I use it to wear while cleaning or if I'm sick (as long as it's loose and comfortable). Anything else becomes a rag.

I've been on a minimalist path for a while now, but I am starting to realize the value of my actual attention to things that are not worth my energy as well. You made some really great points about not caring so much about what other people think and do what is best for yourself. More often than not we are looking for approval when we share things on social media for example. I am guilty of looking for praise, but discouraged when people don't like what I have to say or what I do etc.. It's a huge concern that really shouldn't be. To be honest, I am starting to see how much attention I seek and that is not what minimalism is about either. Be yourself, but don't obsess over what others think either. 🙏 I would rather seek inner peace and wisdom. Thanks for all of your awesome content.

The thing is when talking to others from different countries you see how traditions play a big role. For example, women are expected to have homes in clean order and be hospitable and wear nice clothes. They are expected to feed anyone who pops over. So they need more food on hand always. It would be interesting to see minimalism in that context.

Storage units do make sense for a short period of time, in a transition situation. I have a friend who broke up with their partner, moved to a room temporarily but planned to move into an apartment again within a year - renting the storage for that time was cheaper, more environmentally friendly and more time saving than getting rid of the bigger furniture only to have to buy it again within a year. But as a permanent thing it just means you have too much stuff 😅

The less we have the less we have to worry about so you hit a good point there for sure. Work stress is a killer! One of the worst jobs I had was working a call center for a domain registrar. You get stress from 3 directions, angry customers, pushy management and foul mouthed agents sitting next to you and the customer on the phone thinks it's you who just swore! Ugh! So happy to be working on my own now. I couldn't care less what others think or want. If they want to keep up with the Jones it's their loss. I'm a very practical person.

This is a listed summary of the problems solved by minimalism that has a snowball effect the reason why it changes peoples lives if done right with the right mindset. 1. QUALITY > QUANTITY = LESS STUFF = LESS CLEANING & MANAGING = LESS STRESS = MORE HAPPIER / GRATEFUL / HUMBLE / CARING TO HELP OTHERS / EATING HEALTHIER + EXCERCISING = MORE FOCUSED PRODUCTIVITY =MORE MONEY = MORE SAVINGS = LESS WORK = MORE TIME TO DO WHATEVER, WHENEVER, /W WHOMEVER WHILE LEARNING NEW THINGS & EXPLORE NEW PLACES WITH PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT FACES. right now I'm working on being more grateful, humble, & taking better care for myself and others.

not to be dismissive but all of the problems you seem to have solved with minimalism aren't a problem for most of people everywhere in the world... clutter everywhere ? just clean as you go. Too many cloths ? spring cleaning + donations. And then the most tone death thing I've heard all of this week is: you don't need to buy a new house, a new car... man... Do you know how many people actually own houses ? or are considering a SECOND car ? You're talking from a point of view where you seem to have everything and you're happy, which IS GOOD, but man... this video was so tone death and out of touch. EDIT: And you also talk about "just get a 6 MONTHS worth of revenue so you can quit your job and try something new" dude... for real... I'm a minimalist too and I love your videos, but this is just so out there when most people lost their jobs due to c0vd etc... I mean... even before that lots of people were working 2-3 jobs...

I agree with you to a certain extent but unfortunately his channel isnt directed towards everyone in the world. He’s simply speaking from his POV and these are the issues he dealt with that is solved by minimalism. KZbin videos would go on and on if he simply catered to everyone and talked about all the ins and outs of everything. I agree that he is privileged which is great but he’s had to make many sacrifices himself to get to where he is now. I have family members who aren’t well off and they buy the newest iPhones all the time- that might have been a better thing to mention vs houses and cars.

I think minimalism is a privilege not afforded to every one. Sometimes frugality and minimalism go hand in hand but sometimes they oppose each other. For example in minimalism dont need this item and could pick it up if the need ever arose (borrowing an item is more frugal) but frugality means keeping the item because thats money saved in future. I think its about a balance of the 2 and what works for 1 person doesn’t work for another. Minimalism isnt a magic solution to all your problems it simply reduces some of the stress and realigns your spending habits to live within your means which we have been conditioned to the opposite.
@workhard65913 жыл бұрын
I agree that minimalism doesn't solve all issues, in fact faith is my more go to. Yet, I think minimalism can be for everyone with time management and frugality. It is choosing the most important things and the process takes time but is worth it.
