I live in a very modest, typical small city in Canada. Things I never seen just ten years ago... - panhandlers - tent cities - $300-400,000 "starter homes" -massive influx of non English speaking immigration - traffic congestion I used to only see in major cities. - blatant crime - open substance abuse - urban decay The rot and toxicity of the major cities like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver etc has spread to almost every community across Canada.

I am a former Canadian with a STEM degree who had a job in Toronto working for a large multinational corporation. In the mid 1980s, I was in my mid twenties looking for a house to buy. Homes could be had for around $100k. A really beautiful home on a large corner lot, with pool (off Royal Oak and a street I forget, just north of Bloor, south of a little park, was offered for $159k asking price. My company sent me to work in the USA for three years. When I returned, that $100k home was $300k. My salary had not tripled. I found a job in the USA and moved south, never to return. I don’t regret my decision.

Smartest move you ever made. Then again if you had bought, even at 300k. That same house is now worth around $2 million. Timing was everything in T.O. in the 80's real estate game.

Trying to take advantage of a shortcut in immigration. Their visas have all expired as of Dec. 1st. The melting pot concept was an amazing formula for getting people on the same team. Now we have different interests and agendas. It's like herding cats ... good luck. Americans used to pull together .. Now everyone is in their own tribe. Lyndon b Johnson followed Canada with the dumb multiculturalism bit. Now we have division and you can find yourself in a part of town where all the signs are in a different language .. and English is nowhere to be seen. What a mess.

Canada remaining as a Generally White Anglo (Franco) European (and First Nations) already multicultural Nation was also an option. Anyway I think that the multicultural aspect of Canada is ok , it's more of the social discourse created by the government went off track and now everything is upside down as to how society was organically formed back then , so many people don't like the change , but there seem to be many who like the progress and I expect more will continue to vote for Liberal/NDP government because that's what Canadian People want nowadays.

I left Canada back in 2016. I saw the beginning of Canada's downfall in the early 2000 when the manufacturing industry that I was a part of was taxed and regulated into extinction. After roughly around 2010 I saw American retail giant "TARGET" spent $millions to bring their stores across Canada and ended up leaving as they felt it was no longer profitable to bring their business into Canada. I can go on with many other examples of businesses and industries leaving Canada. I decided to leave because I realized that the decay of Canada was not solely because of the government but the mentality of the Canadian people. Canadian's overwhelmingly expect their government to take care of everything in their lives so they don't need to take responsibility in doing it themselves. There are other factors as well but you kind of know how Canadians are like just by the way the Liberal and NDP continually get elected more often than any other party. I understand that Pierre Poilievre will become the next Prime Minister of Canada. Poilievre will do his best to fix Canada but there is a long time of pain involved in fixing something before it gets better. Unfortunately I know Canadian too well and they don't want to go through the pain to get better. I know full well that the Canadian people will only stomach Poilievre for so long until (just like drug addicts feeling the pain of not getting their next fix in time) they can't live without all the free handouts from the Liberal/NDP. What I'm trying to say is the prosperous Canada we once knew is gone forever and their are better countries out there.

Here's how Canada has fallen so far: government employees and welfare recipients combined are 40million people. Who do you think they are going to vote for...the hand that feeds them. Canadian wages have stayed the same since 2016. West Virginia wages in San Francisco pricing. In just 2009, Canadians had a higher GDP per person at $52k than the US at $50k. They've doubled their debt in the last 4 years. The recent GDP came in at negative .4% when it was predicted to be +1.5%. They need to vote Pierre in to clean up the mess that Canadian Castro created

I don’t want Canada as a whole to become the 51st state. The reason is at large votes will be Democrat. Canada would have about 50 electoral votes. Best is for the US to take Conservative provinces. Alberta and Saskatchewan would be assets to the U.S. as well as parts of the rest of Canada. The rest of Canada is dead weight. Canada is capable of outperforming even the US but poor leadership is what’s destroying it. Trudeau didn’t elect himself.

Correction, we're not a country of immigrants. The people who first came here didn't have any help and had to fend for themselves. Most lived in poverty for generations to build the country from nothing, as well as fought and died in wars for it. The ones coming in today have a system that aids them. And don't argue about the natives, which I am part native myself. All countries have the same history if one wants to make that argument. Healthcare is not free. This explains the high taxes. About 55% of taxes go towards healthcare. They have free healthcare in the USA called Medicare and Medicaid btw for low income and retirees.
@dilvishpa5776
@dilvishpa5776 8 күн бұрын
Just so you know, Medicare is not free. Basic Medicare (Part A), which is hospitalization, is not charged, but Medicare Part B is charged (I am a 66 y.o. male who pays $171/month for Medicare Part B). Keep in mind that 3% of your pay was contributed to Medicare your entire working life (split between you and your employer). I get supplemental insurance for the Medicare gap, called Medicare Part G, that is private. I buy a high deductible plan ($6900/year deductible) for $177/month that covers basic care without copay. Then I buy a drug plan. I found a drug plan that covers my cholesterol, prostate and heart meds without copay for about $120/year. Dental and eyecare insurance are also extra. You need to review your private choices annually because things change. So I pay about $360/month for health insurance (not including dental and eye care). However, I just had open heart surgery, and my copay for that has been $0. I was diagnosed September 17, and had my surgery October 4, at one of the top surgical hospitals in the USA, by one of the top heart surgeons. Overall, though it isn’t free, I am satisfied with my coverage. If you are low income, there is assistance in paying your premiums.

I’m of the same opinion about Canada. We moved from Sweden in 76’ and lived in Florida for ten years, and at that time I was 18, and my parents moved us to Canada for better health coverage as my dad had surgery in Florida, was fired from his job and they thought Canada would offer more. I didn’t agree. Today, Canadas managers including the trudeau liberals have ruined the economic state of this country. People here are depressed, they’re drained financially and have lost total hope. So, I ask myself, is there not other countries where your money goes much further ? A place where you don’t feel the anxiety and pressure of Canada ? And I have discovered that there are many countries where you can live with much more harmony and where your savings will last to the end of your life.

The Canadian Navy is nearly nonexistent and also aging out. Canada is Non-Nuclear, They do not have any modern SAM’s, etc. The CAF are well funded, but nobody seems to know where that money is going; who knows? Canada has been, and is relying on the U.S. to keep them safe. Which no doubt the U.S. would do. However, not for nothing like they have been. (Which is completely understandable). Another thing is Canadians ability to own firearms (Or even be proud to be Canadian) gets more restricted every year. Trudeau just introduced a new list of ‘Banned’ firearms that are now illegal. They are to be turned in to Law Enforcement and the plan is to send them to Ukraine. What in the hell? I see why many Canadians who live in the Central/Western provinces (Completely different culture than in the Eastern populations of Toronto/Ontario, Montreal, Quebec etc). The biggest problem with Canada is that the overwhelming majority of the people have a mindset where they want the Government to take care of them from cradle to the grave. That's why Canada is in the mess that it's in with such high taxes and an incredibly oversized and overreaching Government.

I agree 100% with what you said . Im born and raised in British Columbia , im in my early 30s . And can no where near afford to buy a house / trailer or piece of land .. back in the 90s and early 2000s . You could buy an 1 to 10 acres for 50 to 8o grand . Now adays that would cost 250 . Just for the land ! In the 2000s you could go all in house and land for 300 t0 400 g . Not amymore . Even the cheap mountain areas of bc are going up in price due to Albertans and Americans coming in and buying everything up. I just need 1 to 3 acres and a log cabin . Why should I have to pay 1 to 3 million to get that?!

That's why I believe in the long run, not as of now, but in say 3 or 4 generations time, Russia will surpass the West. The Russians abolished socialism while the west has been descending ever deeper into it and will continue to do so. All the points mentioned, expect for the weather maybe, apply to the whole west. Politicans like Thatcher or Milei represent just temporary improvement to an overall downbound trend.

I bought my first house in 2009, in Kitchener ON, for $194500. A modest 1100 sq.ft. century home. I sold it in 2017 for $360000 with a few upgrades (roof, A/C). That same house, with next to zero upgrades from when I sold it, sold again for half a million. Absolutely wild.

Healthcare in the U.S. is expensive, but it is everywhere. There's a county seat town east of me with about 10,000 people. Within that one town is a large hospital, at least three "urgent care" clinics with doctors, X-ray and blood test facilities, and two cancer treatment centers, two dialysis centers, and numerous orthopedic and other specialty centers. It's about a square mile of medical centers and housing for healthcare workers. The cost with an income typical of the area is $350 a month for government-subsidized insurance and a $9,000 out of pocket maximum per year; or if you want to pay $1,300 a month for zero out of pocket; and insurance in between those extremes. Once you age into Medicare at 65, you can buy insurance for $400 a month ($185 Medicare Premium plus $200 supplemental) that gives you 100% coverage except a $240 out of pocket deductible per year. They pay for healthcare workers is multiples of what it is in Canada. When I used to fly back to the USA from Toronto, the plane was packed with young Canadian nurses moving to the USA. In the border cities they drive into the USA to work on weekends, making more money on a Saturday in the U.S. than they can all week in Canada. Different systems, with different pros and cons, but ours seems more dynamic because it is fueled by money.
