I would argue that Pegasus dying in the Manga and being kept alive in the Anime was the biggest change because it affected the anime spin offs and the Yugioh R Manga was directly written because he died

Might be a callback to first duel between Yugi and Kaiba in the season zero manga, when Kaiba only had the one Blue Eyes that he stole from Yugi's grandpa. Because it was a Shadow Game, the cards came to life and the Blue Eyes wouldn't attack. Yugi won the game in the manga and recovered the Blue Eyes for Yugi's Grandpa. Later, the main points of the Death-T arc would be adapted to the first episode of the Duel Monsters anime (Yugi's Grandpa's Blue Eyes stolen and subsequently destroyed, Kaiba's three Blue Eyes being destroyed by Exodia, etc).

@@RouroniRockman It's funny that the Blue Eyes were loyal to Kaiba, since in the Manga he explicitly got them through less than stellar means.

@@psyxypher3881 yeah, one of them he drove the owner to bankruptcy to force him to sell the card, the other he paid the mafia to intimidate them into giving him the card, and the other he somehow got the owner to commit suicide and just took it afterwards. Also it was said that every blue eyes copy was in a different language (4th blue eyes might be English cous of grandpa muto best friend being an American archaeologist) An OCG (Japan exclusive) structure deck card actually had the first translated card breaking the language barrier way before the card game got licensed Spanish German and French for 2003 Walmarts which I had a chance to buy and lost them years later Oh yeah by the way they were Korean English and Japanese blue eyes cards

Great video, but you missed a small, yet important difference: 1. In the manga, the duels take place in duel boxes, essentially a small glass box with a table. The characters are maybe arm's length apart, and the holograms aren't too terribly big. The closest the anime gets to this is a proposed invention by Kaiba's rival Ziegfried in Season 5, but he was late to the party proposing it to Pegasus. 2. In the anime, they duel in huge arenas, with giant holograms and the duelists being a good 10-20 feet apart. This makes moments like Joey figuring out Mai's perfume trick and Mokuba stealing Yugi's star chips make less sense in the anime, since in the manga they were at a more reasonable distance for these events to occur, while in the anime Mokuba would've had to leap off of his platform, run all the way around to Yugi's platform, and jump up to him to steal the star chips without Yugi noticing.
@henrylaz89642 жыл бұрын
By far the biggest and most significant change of Anime vs Manga is the heavily reduced duel brutality. In the manga monsters don't simply disintegrate as a result of lost battle but DIE in horrible ways. Most swords or sharp weapon attacks result in decapitation or bisection.

Understand, the Yugioh franchise as a whole is mainly targeted towards teenage boys in Japan. I mean Shonen manga and anime mainly target early to late teen boys (12-18). And while the anime isn’t as brutal as the manga, it still had violence and swearing. So it’s demographic is still the same as the manga. But due to TV broadcast standards, they couldn’t show brutal scenes during certain hours. That’s why the manga was more brutal cuz they didn’t have as much restrictions. Even the OCG version of the card game is confirmed for early teens or older on the back of every early and current OCG pack. “対象年齢12才以上” (Translation: “Target age 12 years and older”) Which implies it’s for early teens or older.

Can't believe you didn't bring up the Dungeon Dice Monsters arc even once. A LOT of changes went on there (most notably, Mr. Clown was completely non-existent, and thus, Yugi putting his puzzle back together inside of a burning building had to be part of a completely seperate event). For that matter, this video doesn't seem to mention anything beyond early Battle City. EDIT: Ah. Okay, nevermind. I see that this was part of a series, and you did (eventually) cover the stuff with Dungeon Dice Monsters.

There was quite a bit of season zero references, episode 1 had a bunch. And then there was that fight between Yami Yugi and evil Bakura at duelest kingdom where his friends were card monsters. I like how they were able to somehow squeeze in season 0 in the anime here in America and Japan :)
@Joe_SharkSkin2 жыл бұрын
Spoilers to those who havnt read the manga… Yugi and friends actually battled Zorc in season 0 and it was in interesting Arc. Bakura is of course the new transfer student and lures Yugi and friends to his house to play a board game and there you will see other people who were lured and turned into these dueling monsters if I remember correctly. This Arc was squeezed into that one episode at duelest kingdom even though it happened way before duelest kingdom.

Another difference that i actually liked in the manga, just cause of the actual risk, was at duelist kingdom- the panic duel for Mai’s chips, in the manga it was in the duel box, but panic had a wire cord around yugis neck… in the anime it was fire cannons to ‘scare him’. Then he tried to burn him to a crisp. Ink that duel just seemed more risky in the manga

The blocking the gun with Gyakutenno Megami in the helicopter also happened in the Japanese anime, where Kaiba did it to Kemo/Saruwatari/the hair guy. Kemo was also the one who stole Kaiba’s deck in the manga. The relationship between the Kaiba’s and Kemo were not mentioned in the English dub, and the gun scene was cut as well. I’m not sure if Strings’ backstory was mentioned in the Japanese dub of the anime.

Fun video and I have to say the changes to the manga in the original Japanese really improve the quality because some of that was nuts. The weird stuff with Kiba and the Cardhunters is just off the wall. And it sucks that Bandit Keith doesn't come back in the manga because he was a great villain to have because while he cheated he was still a solid duelist even without doing that. Thats like calling "Dragon Ball" Season 0 and then calling DBZ the main series when it is 1 story from chapter 1 to the end. Spinoffs and sequels get subtitles. Duel Monsters starts on chapter 60. Yu-Gi-Oh! is Series 1 of Takahashi's manga.

That part of the anime is generally known as season 0, it wasn't his idea, it's been like that for ages.
@JTHMSqueeMrEffDBoy2 жыл бұрын
Well, sort of. I believe the Season 0 moniker was just a fan thing, probably to differentiate it from Duel Monsters. As for the adaptation thing, the two shows aren't really part of the same adaptation in the way that DragonBall was, as I understand it. It's sort of like a Hannibal Lecter situation (weird comparison, I know, but I think it fits here). The first Lecter novel, Red Dragon, was made into the film Manhunter back in the 80's, but it didn't do so well at the time (though is more regarded now), so years later, a separate group did a film version of Silence of the Lambs, the second book in the series. However, SotL was not considered a sequel to Manhunter, and instead ended up becoming the actual starting point of the Hannibal Lecter franchise, whereby every film after would be tying into it more than Manhunter. They even redid Red Dragon to be more in line with Silence, much like how Duel Monsters remade or reworked events already seen in the Toei show, so the two shows don't even line up continuitywise. Basically, the Toei show and DM are both adaptations of the comics, and DM does start adapting at around the point the Toei show stopped, but they are not one full-on connected adaptation. Wow, that's the most I've talked about Yu-Gi-Oh in years.
