Damn right 2 speed or bang shifters are all cool till you start street driving. Same with 'race clutches' when you can get good clutches that don't give dead legs. Also quiet exhaust on a car you want to take across county will save so much fatigue.
@jameshatton42116 ай бұрын
Multi plate clutch is the only way to go unless your want to be doing right l leg calf raises to compensate for your left "clutch leg" hahaha Once you've had a multi plate clutch, you'll never go back to a HD single plate ever again. There's just something cool about stopping at the lights, selecting 2nd gear and then dumping the clutch and just being engulfed in an instant smoke show......then flat shifting 3rd and blazing the treads till about 120km/h then putting your indicator on to overtake the 32 skyline your about to pass with the tyres blazing away like it's black Friday.

A lot of the performance/fuel consumption gains in the last 5-10yrs have been from driveline, not powertrain. There's definite gains to be had.
@craigsampson33866 ай бұрын
Not quite the same but a similar thing I've seen in FB groups is that there are conversion kits to swap out the original 4sp 4L60e automatics to the 6sp 6L80 automatic in the Holden Adventra that came with LS1s, even a kit available for 6sp TR6060 manual swapping it as they only came 4sp auto from factory, so gaining an extra 2 gears either from an auto or manual conversion made a noticeable gain in fuel economy and acceleration, especially since those vehicles weigh almost 2000kg. I'd presume the 6sp 6L80 auto conversion is doable in the normal 3rd gen Commodores too since thats what the Adventra was based on.

A guy I know drives an 8HP MKV Supra thats set up with a PRNDL keypad, sequential style push-pull shifter, and a second DBW gas pedal where a clutch pedal would be. I've only ridden in the car but its nearly indistinguishable from a hot DCT in an M4, plus it clutch-kicks just like a regular straight drive would. Really neat bit of kit. I'm seriously considering squeezing one into my next Miata build (which will be 13B turbo powered). DomiWorks makes the bell housing and torque converter adapters and HTG does the TCU. All in its still cheaper than a T56.

Nice to see an RX3 coupe. I tried to find one that wasnt rusted out in the early 80's and still had to settle for an RX4. The 8 speeds seem to stand a bit of abuse in the 4WD's but those ZF parts are never cheap compared to a GM trans. Looking forward to the second episode even if it is just to see how long the tail shaft ended up being.

I have a 94 FD with 20b swap I DIYed back in 2007. I'm mostly a manuel guy. Really digging the idea of doing this swap. Hearing what a 20b sounds like as it quickly rolls through the gears of an 8 speed made the 20b sound even more exotic. I have a quiet exhaust as well. This has my attention, and I'm seeing these transmissions, CHEAP on ebay as we speak. Edit: Nevermind. I forget that traditional autos are rpm limited and my 20b is NA. 😞

I know its 2024 and nobody uses points and old fashioned ignition units anymore but computers in cars ruin it for me.
