Milton Keenes too bad it’s QLC. I recently bought the 4TB Samsung 860 Pro because of its speeds and the MLC configuration (wish it would be 8TB though). I would really like to see more SSD’s or M.2 SSD’s with MLC (maybe even SLC) hahah
@emiel2554 жыл бұрын
Milton Keenes I know SLC are a rarity that’s why I put in between parentheses :). MLC are a tiny bit more present in SSD’s but still on the very the low side.But like I said I would like to see more in the future of those SSD types because QLC is definitely a no go for me. TLC is acceptable if the SSD I want does not have an MLC type or does not have enough storage and it would be my only option
@emiel2554 жыл бұрын
Milton Keenes definitely! I currently own 3 970 Pro’s by Samsung but I think I am going to switch 2 of them to the 970 EVO 2TB so I can get more storage on one M.2. The last 970 Pro I will keep as it will function as my OS boot and all of my programs which I would like to start up as fast as possible It’s very unfortunate that the 970 Pro (and even now the 980 Pro) don’t have a 2TB option The 970 EVO seems to be one of the best M.2’s next to that of the 970 Pro (and the currently 980 Pro) so I can accept that TOC type perfectly fine especially considering the fact that Samsung always makes one of the best M.2’s
@emiel2554 жыл бұрын
Milton Keenes what do you consider heavy? I intent to use those two SSD’s primarily for storing games (I may merge the two into one so I get 4TB)

Some people might think it's overkill. Until you're like me, I downloaded Dirt Rally 2.0 last night thinking it's probably 25GB or so. That sucker was 100GB. Games are only going to get bigger as the PS5/XSX generation starts. So large capacity SSDs are just going to become more important if you have as many games as I do on PC.
@commanderoof45784 жыл бұрын
My steam library is around 5TB’s i have my top 20 games installed across a few SSD’s and then the rest on a 2TB HDD This drive is well good on capacity but I would opt for a Sabrent 8TB NVMe drive due to how god damn small it is But as that is £1,400 (unless your willingly getting ripped off) I might get this but only if it is £800 or less because i want capacity and speed and sata 3 just doesnt do that and sata wont be getting an update Samsung needs to update there stuff or just add an extra connection which i can cable directly to an NVMe port instead of sata But a massive thing the Sabrent has over this piece of slow tech is 512GB of SLC speed and even once you filled it with a stupid large data dump your still gonna get well over 500MB/s vs this things poxy 140MB/s once the SLC cache is filled
@vkobevk Жыл бұрын
it is overkill if you use that for OS for game and other stuff you use external ssd, hdd or secondary internal ssd not using for OS
@RobbieKhan3 жыл бұрын
Very useful info and great to see those perf numbers. It's worth noting that a drive like this may well appeal to those wishing to move away from internal mechanical storage drives like myself who has 2x 4TB drives, (WD Red and a Seagate Ironwolf) to solid state. In this context the write speeds will still be faster even when the cache gets filled it seems but for me, it's mostly for just document storage, photos and tv/film storage so will never really be taxed too high. I think I will go for this! Also worth noting that Amazon have this listed where you can pay £52 a month for 12 months so don't have to pay the full £626 in one go making the buy much more digestible as it's certainly not cheap.

Great review as always! Do keep in mind though, that you only get 3 years of warranty on the QLC drives as opposed to the 5 years with the TLC's. That said, I like samsung drives, still have my old 850 evo and the newer 970 evo that replaced it. Never gave me any issue's, unlike crucial drives -.- NVMe drives are still a bit expensive, but having your steam library on one is just sooooo nice.
@TechTesters4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's a thing. But at the same time, I don't remember ever breaking an SSD within its warranty period. The only ones that died so fa are really, really old. Had a Crucial M4 break last year, but can't hold that against Crucial :D As for NVMe, some are so cheap though. 660p, A2000, etc. SATA drives are really under pressure.

To me, pretty decent value as a secondary backup drive (primary is NVME 1 TB XPG/Adata 8200). This was the cheapest I could go - there were none such cheap options. Even sucking DRAMless WD Green are more expensive. Getting to 7,7 eurocents/GB is not too bad.
