He’s right. I was an undesignated Airman too, I got out as an E-4 in 2009. Best ratings are IT, OS, YN or PN, IS, RP, AW and my favorite of all LN. I tried to become a Legalman but the school was closed at the time. If I could do it all over again I would have joined as a Legalman or AW. Also, do some school work! Don’t be lazy and waste time. You CAN do school while youre in. Especially if you’re not deployed. Do online school. Get a degree BEFORE you get out, even if it’s just an associates. Take CLEP tests and Excelsior tests and DANTES tests for FREE at most bases. Navy Federal has great certificates! Navy Federal is awesome! Also BUY a HOME while youre IN. It is possible! Use the VA loan. Get a house and even if you don’t live in it just keep paying it. There are still places you can buy a cheaper home. If not that you can buy a small piece of land somewhere and begin building a home. If you need help just start speaking to real estate agents and get the information you need. For health, document EVERYTHING! Get copies of ALL your visits to any doctors you have seen while youre in. Get those documents into your service record. Scan them and create an electronic copy that way you can send it to VA.

Cool video!! I left active duty 50 years ago, so things have changed. Many enlistees went in thinking they could pick & choose where they wanted to be stationed when a great deal of us were shipped off to Viet Nam & WESTPAC & didn't go anywhere else. We had Cinderella Liberty on int'l. soil, so there were no overnighters off ships or bases & we had to wear uniforms at all times, no civvies, back on the ship by midnight. Many of us wound up in red light districts looking for trouble & excitement anyway. Street vendors always saw $$$ whenever they saw guys in uniform knowing they didn't know their language, so I would suggest taking online courses. Photos are important. I still have my cruise books & pics & showed my grandkids what I looked like with no gray or facial hair. I've held onto my Navy issued Peacoat- don't know why.

I was an undes SN for a year, as a Yeoman striker. Then applied and was accepted into IS school, that changed my life. It's also attitude. If you have a good attitude, eager to learn, get the most of your duty stations, you'll get seen as someone on the ball. I had sailors that were stationed in the Caribbean that were MISERABLE.

I was a i designated airman and pretty much I had to analyze the whole reality of being undes.. obviously you have to wait your chance. So, you’re main focus is figuring out your negotiation date.. and the first cycle there’s a 15% chance you’ll get picked up.. second cycle there’s a 50% chance you’ll get picked up.. and third chance you’ll put your 1306 in and whatever you put down.. you’ll get chosen the rate you put down.

If you wanna say your in the military but never do anything that's like the military join the navy it's the least dangerous combative branch the least undisciplined...what this guy isn't telling y'all most military certifications don't transfer to the civilian world for example say you get qualified to drive big trucks in the military you aren't gonna be able to use that certification to get cdls on the civilian side so what I am saying you may get some experience in that field but it's usually totally different on civilian side...if I had a dollar for every time you said right or talked with your hands I wouldn't need a plan..anything you do in life you need a plan in life you fail to plan you plan to fail
