This is very helpful. I am new to AD, and this is exactly what I was looking to learn.

Hi Robert, Thanks. All vector programmes come across as massively complicated to me. Maybe I should look at doing a complete introduction to Vector drawing

Frank Walters is making a new Affinity Designer book. Should be good. His first wasn't the best, but his Affinity Photo Bible I is a best seller.

Thank you for producing this vector tutorial, I really struggle with the pesky pen tool and find it counterintuitive for some one used to a handling a real or Apple Pencil in a Raster (pixel) app. So I will give the tracing some practice. The second method does look easier. When nesting one shape within another I find it easier to think of it as similar to applying a clipping mask in Procreate. Loved the look of your little speed drawn tractor it actually was probably not so speedy I suspect. for the actual outlines did you stick to the pen tool or use it in combination with the shape and draw tools? Good job Steve.

Hi Patricia, Thanks. I think the second method is easier for simple shapes, but with a bit of practice the first method will probably be quicker for complex shapes. You are right about the quick drawing at the end of the video, it wasn't so quick. I pretty much used the pen tool for the whole of the drawing. I tried the drawing tool a couple of times but gave up on it because I really wanted to illustrate the use of the pen tool

@SteveElliottArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cats, yes this app supports layers and you can make a solid background. By weld do you mean combine two shapes into one? If so yes. If it helps I have created files that I have sent to a sign maker to cut out and print stickers, lettering etc

@@SteveElliottArt by weld I mean like if I draw a circle , and now I am adding an additional line straight down the middle I want the end points to weld into the circle ...how do I do that?
