You can alwasy just change your monitor layout to portrait, flip it on its side and portrait actaully looks really good without the black lines. Its sort of like opening a youtube vidoe on your phone in portrait and you flip it to the side to get full screen in landscape, when you flip a portrait video to its side, it goes full screen in portrait. I noticed this on a monitor that lets you flip between portrait and landscape phsyically. Got to see my photo's for the first time in full portrait glory and it was awesome. Theres a reason we take portrait photos somtimes, it focuses the attention up and down, whch is how we experience certain views in real life , when we look at a tower for example we see it long ways and cut out the sides automatically. Its not bad way to film or take pictures, we're just viewing it badly when they should be viewed on portrait monitors to get full screen.

Agreed! However, how do you measure where to place the tape to create the perfect 4x5 composition?
@danielakachi36664 жыл бұрын
@@Remotelyfe - Record a test video(vertical) - Create a 4 x 5 composition on your editing software - move the video into the composition(a crop on the top and on the bottom will occur). - while playing the video on your camera, tape out the cut part on the top and the bottom. ps: Having multiple items on the upper and bottom part of the video when recording the test video will help you trace the cut out better. I didn't find a tape on time so I used a sticky note 😬

Just setup my secondary monitor in portait mode today because I'm learning some basic web development and the portrait view makes it easier to see much more of the text on screen. And then, when my screen saver came on, I saw a beautiful landscape screen saver. So I thought, I wonder if there are any portrait youtube videos? Found this and on full screen on my secondary monitor it looks AMAZING. Now I'm looking for more content; of course there are shorts, but the problem is, well, they are short.

Vertical videos, good to those who have one eye above the other, or don't know how to turn the phone 90º. Gravity pulls everything to a horizontal plane that's where action happens. You'll have to continuous pan or take a very wide shot to frame the action. Telephones are almost vertical devices cause the ears are above the mouth, but some people didn' notice it and are still missing the action using your camera as a phone.

Best thing to do is not to actually shoot in vertical and keep your options open by shooting in landscape then converting afterwards. The best tool to use for that is Kamua.com as it can automatically keep your subject in frame.

Instagram often has an issue with this big video. We using 640*360 file format at 2.5 mb/s h.264 codec for posts or 720*1280 for stories. Otherwise you can catch sound unsynchronized with video. Not enough info about exporting.
@bernhardreviews4 жыл бұрын
Shooting vertical = big mistake. Better shoot landscape in 4K and reframe later for vertical aspect ratios (you don't need 4K or Full HD for phone screens). If not you will run into all the problems described in this video, i.e. your subject has to be perfectly in frame because you cannot change composition any more, problems with focal length, etc. etc. I have a tutorial on my channel how to reframe in DaVinci Resolve and how to change landscape into portrait by using keyframes to perfectly keep the subject in frame, it is like controlling the camera after the fact. Also leave space on top and bottom so you have more artistic choices.
@freecloud4may4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, after watching this vid i thought maybe I should try shooting verically instead of reframing in post, but it seems reframing in post is the best way to go, I agree with you. If you shoot in 4k you dont lose quality by reframing either and even with 1080p you can scale it up only just a bit which is still ok, but you do get WAY more control over framing in post and you can make both vertical and horizontal video from the same footage, while If shoot vertical you only get vertical video and basically no useful way to reframe in post
