I can see how relaxing and fun to watch, just sharing time with them. I'd love to see some of their wildier antics if you could catch them on video. Sure they interact in establishing heirarchy, has there been any close calls when you had to intervene. Also since llamas are bigger, do they tend to want dominance?

Are these all purebred alpacas? Some of them look like there was a llama somewhere in their ancestry. How do you tell for sure? Does it effect their hair?

The alpacas here are full alpacas. We have a registry that keeps track of ancestry from the generation of import. Those who were imported would of had documentation as well. Some traits that you see can be traced back to certain farms in South America who bred for distinctive characteristics. The only one I have who is a mix is Winter. But by looking at her, you’d know she is not full alpaca. And I don’t introduce her as an alpaca.

@@ButterfieldAlpacaRanch I live in Reno, Nevada. I think there is an alpaca ranch nearby in California, but I am not certain where. I went to a craft fair and talked to a woman who had them. That was years ago. Since I live within the city limits, I don't think I can have one. Do you need to get two alpacas or are they just fine being the only one? I know bison need to be with their friends, but I don't know about alpacas.
