Chronic alcohol abuse can impair the GI tract's ability to absorb vitamin B12 through various mechanisms, including damage to stomach cells and increased diuretic effects. Bariatric surgeries and conditions like atrophic gastritis also contribute to B12 deficiency. Diets low in animal protein, particularly red meat, can exacerbate this issue, as red meat is a primary source of B12.
Additionally, medications like metformin and certain antibiotics can lead to B12 deficiency. Monitoring B12 levels is crucial, especially for those on long-term medications or with conditions like diabetes, as deficiencies can lead to serious health issues, including neuropathy.

I reminded my doc in 2021 about Metformin depleting nutrients…b12, coq10, and folate..she gave me the deer in the headlight look, but graciously agreed with my statement…letting her know while on Metformin I would be supplementing with the above nutrients. Fast forward, I only stayed on Metformin for 10 months. Went on a very low carb diet, and currently remain on NO MEDS. Thank you Dr Osborne for your teaching and information. The body can heal itself naturally… if it’s allowed to do so.

Decades of ongoing health issues with yearly blood tests and more, along with numerous expensive medical specialist referrals, yet the actual causes of my illnesses have still never been identified. I don't recall ever having B12 tests, even when I was anaemic, as the doctors never mentioned it.

I am over 60 and I have never had any Doctor say he wanted to check my vitamin status. When I would ask them if my diet had anything to do with my condition, they all told me it did not.

Their entire medical school training involves only two hours on nutrition, which is mostly wrong, in that it promotes processed, refined carbohydrates.

Poor training from medical institutions set up by an oil magnate (think back to Rockefeller who decided that using petro chemicals as medicine was a better way of treating illness rather than looking for the cause of illnesses . Who funded universities to train doctors to push his products . It could be called bandaid medicine treating symptoms not bothering to find cure . Who called all other healing modalities quackery . Many times allopathic doctors will say “we don’t know what caused it “ where as others who’ve gone on to add to their initial training in areas like nutrition , lifestyle and other healing modalities will look at ways you might have become sick .. Took me a while to find doctors that don’t mind checking levels even if it’s only yearly .but have had many who said not needed . But this is how ridiculous that statement is about not needing to check vitamins levels . Why do we have the RDA the recommended daily allowance for vitamins and minerals ? To make sure we don’t become ill from vitamin and minerals deficiencies of course . Doctors can be so silly (not the word I wanted to use but it’s fit for you tube )

The only reason I wouldn't eat beef for 25yrs is due to not wanting to be the reason they were ended. I love cows. I was vegetarian for years until I got so anemic that I had to add poultry :(

I've been doing great not having alcohol for a year but I do plan to have a few glasses of Sangria or Champagne at 3 holiday get together's this year. I'm sure it will set me back a little but all the changes I've had to make bc of histamine & leakygut, I just want to indulge & relax *a little* with family 😇😇

wondering whether you (or anyone on here) has opinions. 35f (weight trains, health concious) took metrogel (topical metronidazole) for my rosacea for 5 years. at the end of that point (nearly 3 years ago now) slurred speech has occured. correlated? and potential B12 issues? no other symptoms (as of yet) so kind of ruling out MS / ALS / BRAIN TUMOUR / STROKE... doctors claim it's due to stress the speech issue... (lol)

Dr. O, I know we should avoid artificial sugars, sucrose (cane sugar, sugarloaf) is from a tree/plant, so in small amounts one can eat that? Is that correct?
