Being a first year med student, I felt so much exhausted after of my crushing and fast routine everyday especially after 15 days of module and block exams that I decided to spend a whole week with my siblings and parents and literally it worked like a miracle...😍 No classes, no study, no phone, no hustling just spending plenty of time with your family gives you another level of peace . And right now I'm on my way to my hostel, quite far away from my home but I'm filled with real peace and zest to ace my upcoming CVS module 🥰 Thanks Zach 🎉

As an italian med student I loved this video❤. Quite accurate, indeed I've to say that even if I study/live out of my hometown, remain the tradition of having a lunch with alla my family at my grandparents' house every sunday, so about every weekend I came back home. Grazie mille Zach! Spero di diventare un medico che ha il tuo stesso entusiasmo e passione per la vita e la cultura in sé. Un abbraccio❤.

I just want to remind you that with the "Italian style" Italy is in the G7 and is the fourth world exporter. You don't have to live frenetically to live in an industrialized G7 country!

Not going to lie, I’m going to try this.. I’m actually so thankful for your videos sir! Things must be extremely busy for you, but thanks for taking time to create content that means a lot of me- us!

Never been to Italy probably will never get the chance. But sometimes living it and hearing about it through someone else is enough. Love listening to your videos is so inspiring and sometimes even funny. You are an amazing person thanks and please post more videos. Oh to be as young intelligent and nice looking as you.

As European it was always surprising me how Americans associate themselves with their jobs. Everything what you are saying here are having so much value. We are working to support our live style, not shaping our live style to do more work

"we"? im european as well and where I live a lot of people associate their job with their identity. ALOT of people do. it's not just an American thing.

I was almost born in Italy. They definitely know how to cultivate more memories. I've eliminated dairy from my diet, but I crave pizza and pasta all the time. A good pesto and grass-fed cheese go a long way from time to time.

Grazie per questo video, Zach. Do you have any Italian relatives? Or are there some other reasons for your interest in Italy/Italian things. For me it's just the culture, food, music, people. Even though I've never been in Italy I've met plenty of Italians and I love singing the occasional Italian karaoke song. The video itself it of course inspirational as always. Love the "piano piano" and "dolce far niente" --- We might think of it as being less "effective", but that's not necessarily true... if you stress too much and hurry with tasks that require attention and focus... you're not saving time... if you do it so fast that you don't accomplish your goal the first time... and you have to do it again and again. Quality over quantity.

Don't know if it's because I'm Italian, feels like I'm the extreme where I live lol but my mentality has always been to work the absolute least I can while surviving and investing a bit, never buy anything superfluous, refuse every event I'm not REALLY exited about and indeed enjoy the fact that I'm doing absolutly nothing today, remember that there are people that are stressing about work/school while "Today" I'm just here being lazy. It's great when it happens. From what I've seen it's kind of the opposite mindset to the classic very productive working American, not saying one is better than the other but this slow, effortless, counterproductive style fits me the best :V

It's a hard balance to strike between striving for improvement and helping others while also taking the time to actually enjoy life. Do you think you would be able to be where you are if you had been doing everything in the italian slow style even during med school? I feel like it's definitely possible to go too far in the "slow" direction.
@ZachHighley2 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s a spectrum I think. For me, I can usually tell if I am leaning too far one way or the other and then need to make a change. Right now, for example, I’m moving too fast, sacrificing health, and, therefore, performance.

Hello Mike en Zack, I am Dutch and I absolutely love the - slow dolce far niente enjoy the small things in life - life. I almost always home cook good food from scratch and go for long walks after work. Reading, going to the gym or the library, having a coffee at at terrace are activities I highly enjoy. I also love to hang out with my partner, our kids, my other family and friends. Nothing fancy, just celebrating in a relaxed peace all the normal things everyday!
