I would hope the rest of her team did not get any recognition for the win, beings none of the others bothered showing up our letting anyone know why they weren't there. They don't deserve any acknowledgement for the win, absolutely none.

This is silly and disruptive to her development in the "real world". Just like any team sport, you can only win or lose AS A TEAM!!! If enough (OR NONE) of your teammates don't show up for the gig, YOU MUST, BY RULE, FORFEIT!!! Giving her the SOLO WIN IN A TEAM SPORT, BASED ON CUTENESS, COURAGE, AND PITY IS NOT HOW THE REAL WORLD WORKS!!!! THIS WAS TOTALLY UNFAIR TO THE OTHER COMPETITORS WHO SHOWED UP!!!!

There is no set number of people on a cheer team (a maximum, but not a minimum). You are not, by rule, required to forfeit (in cheerleading or any other sport) if someone doesn't show up, as long as you have the minimum number of people (which is ONE in this case). The other teams would have beaten her on stunts, as she could not do them. But the score is based on more than just that, most of which isn't based on the number of people you have (especially at that age group). The judges do award points for spirit (which includes courage), usually accounting for the same portion of the score as the stunts. So she lost in stunts and won in spirit, go figure. At that point, she'd get judged on things such as: jumps, motions, tumbling, the actual cheering, and dance (assuming this division includes that), all of which can be done as an individual. Teams are also judged on presentation, which does include how much a person is smiling (you know, cuteness). I see no pity score here. I say this as someone who cheered in high school, cheered in college, worked as a cheer instructor at summer camps, judged a few competitions, and also coached jv.
