This is so super helpful! Im a freelance graphic designer and collage artist and I have set up two stores on Etsy, one is for my original artwork and the other I intend to have as a printable store, so knowing where to niche is helpful. I'm hoping that designing dark, edgy and unconventional stuff will do well as everything looks white and pink on Etsy and I am sure that there are many women like me who prefer darker colours!

Hey Alissa! You should do a video about the importance of copyrighting your work when selling on Etsy! I just found someone bought my digital product and has been selling it as their own for over a month. I never copyrighted... starting the process now but really do wish I had done it from the start!

Hi Meghan, I'm not a lawyer so don't take anything I say below as legal advice, but I would urge you to look into how trademarks and copyrights work. From my research, that is still copyright infringement. As far as I know, the absence of a copyright symbol does not mean theres an absence of a copyright and your work is copyrighted the moment you create it. Please look into this! If it were me I would send them a cease and desist ASAP.

@@AlissaRose Yeah it is still copyright infringement. I sent a DMCA notice but he counter-ed it because he knows the process and the only way my products will stay off his site is if I sue him in response to his counter notice (which requires registered copyright) within 10-14 days! After the 10-14 period, my items will go back on his store and he can sell them. He's started three diff stores selling my product this week because I keep submitting dmca notices and getting them shut down. The guy who took my items is one of the worst and has also messaged me saying he has no plans to stop selling them. He's def one of the 1% of scammers who are bad, most will take your product down after a DMCA notice. If you make any digital product you should copyright it just in case this situation happens. Had I registered the copyright I could have just contacted a lawyer and sued him. I'm going to try the cease and desist letter but he may just ignore it. It only costs $50ish to register a copyright so a good thing to do just to save your butt in case you get a cutthroat scammer.

Currently sell mostly Svg files and some printables of my designs. Branching out this year to birthday invitations after being commissioned to do some and my best sellers are my birthday shirt Svg files. Thanks for all the ideas. I’d love to eventually do garden planners/journals, I worry though my “niche” is getting too broad as it is.

I'd love to do almost all of those. LOL Love the ideas. I was wondering, does most all of those niches you can do through Canva? Like making chore charts or greeting cards? I know wall art is easy to do with Canva but what about all the other things that you were showing? Do you have classes that teach how to do certain niches like those? Like if I wanted to do printable planner stickers, which I would love to do those. I love stickers so I would have fun with those. Do you ever teach those kinds of classes or know of anyone who does? When you create a daily digital planner, do you just provide the 1 day in the PDF they end up downloading or a 365 page PDF? If 1 page is the case, how can the customer use the same page over and over again? I am new to this and I want to make sure I create a daily planner that is convenient to use. I've watched loads of videos where fed up top sellers have left because of the unreasonable amount of fees (listing fees, transaction fees, compulsory advertising fees, sales tax fees etc) which mount up to about 35-40% of your gross earnings. What do you think?

Hey there! Great question. In short, yes it is worth it. As the seller you’re responsible for making sure your own profit margins are healthy.
