Cute little boys. They're all grown up and in they're 40s if they are still around. I was only 7 at the time and living in Huntley in Mchenry County. I would start living in Rockford in the spring of 2001. I don't live on Harrison Avenue though.

Thank-You for your comment. I'm one of those boys and doing well. 42 today. I have no idea the whereabouts of the others though as it was a long time ago. Also after thinking about it further this may have been the McDonalds on Mulford Rd just North of state on the Left. Of course it's been completely redone now.

I would've been turning 5 that year in March, so these kids are my peers. I remember how nice and safe things felt for kids. A lot of things and places catered to children in such ways. Of course there were horrors in the world like there are today, but there was a bit of effort to protect us from them or at least the knowledge of them. The experience, for me, was a very positive one all from the perspective of a child in a middle-class military family. Beautiful times, but things change. We have to find out to construct beauty in the present and in the future. It's up to us.
@Blahbevava

Very joyful positive experience during that time for me as well. Indeed now it's our turn to show our own kids and the next up and coming generation good and better times as well. There's a lot of evil to deal with in the world today.

I too remember taking class trip to McDonald's in the late 80s, but I can't remember why or how schools had time to do such a thing. The food wasn't made to order then but it had way more heart. At that time the moon man toys were in the happy meals to promote late nite feasting.

It's hilarious how when men are watching kids they run up slides backwards and jump on moving merry go rounds and the dads just stand there and keep talking like "oh well..." LOL! I've got videos of me being watched by my dad when I was a kid and we were tearing up jack and my dad was just laying there watching tv not worrying about it. The 80's ruled. LOL!

This brings back so many good memories. I worked there from '86 to '89 (not this actual location). This video nails it. I knew every piece of equipment and every nook and cranny of my McD's. Those grills, bun toasters, fryers, coolers, condiment dispensers, I knew them all. Great video. And those McDLTs! I made hundreds of them!
@redmustangredmustang
@redmustangredmustang Жыл бұрын
The big reason why McDonalds remodeled and did the McCafe's and went the modern Starbucks route was to appeal to the now adult Gen-xers and older Millennials like you see in this video as kids. Most of the Happy Meals and playgrounds that you saw appealed to that generation and getting the Boomer parents to take these kids there because the parents had the money in the 80's and 90's. Starting in 2005 the now college Millennials and adult Gen-xers were not kids anymore so McDonalds decided to go the Starbucks route with the McCafe and appeal to them with the Forever Young remodel starting again in 2005. The sad part is that the playgrounds, and Ronald McDonald and friends, and Happy Meals fell off the way side. We would love to have that back, but McDonalds decided go a different a route which was a bad idea.

I remember the good ole' 80s style McDonald's as a 7 year old kid. I currently work at McDonald's now, and it's a pretty good job. But it's sad to see that the "happiness" has faded away. When my local McDonald's remodeled in 2016, they removed all of the playgrounds, and made it into a cafe style place. There is a small playground inside, however it's closed due to COVID. But that playground never compared to the original one. They even had small merry go rounds, which they removed in 2010.

I notice how thin everyone was in McDonalds, the workers, the Dad's the kids, today it's not like that. Cool video, I never knew they did tours. I was 9 in 1987. They stopped serving the cookie boxes, the orange drink, the apple pie was so much better deep fried. They use to even have a cheese danish in a yellow styrofoam container, I remember then having that in 1989. They had the best happy meal toys of all the other fast food chains, sometimes you would just go their to collect a new toy for the week to complete your set. Now, it's not about the toy, it's not special, they even use to have safe toys for kids under 3 & the best Ronald McDonald commercials about Christmas, ice skating, the muppet baby characters. McDonalds doesn't taste that good & isn't that special anymore. My parents use to take me & my brother their after school for a Mc Nugget happy meal or on the weekend, it was inexpensive & you got a free toy, ice cream, shake. Sadly, we went to many McDonalds in the 1980's & 1990's, we never saw the playground, would have loved that so much, they didn't have it we were lived I guess. I've been going to McDonalds since I was 4, loved playgrounds, but it was still great, now nothing to look forward to there, even the prices got pretty high lately. A few items & it's $30 for lunch, same as an expensive restaurant. But I loved the good times, I wonder if they still give birthday parties with birthday cake, never had a party there, but always wanted to try the cake, I love cake. The kids in this video are so sweet & cute, great video, everyone looked good, happy. I miss those days so much. Kids have everything now, so in general a happy meal toy wouldn't really impress them sadly. In the 1980's, it made your week. The beach toys were fun, halloween pails, cabbage patch kids dolls, hot wheels, you wondered what toy they's have next month, now kids just don't care. We seriously need to bring the old McDy's back, the whole Ronald McDonald gang & make this place happier & fun again.

Believe it or not wearing gloves at least in the state of Illinois is not required by law. So long as hands are washed regularly that is the regulation. From what I understand it has to do with a study that found people who wear gloves rarely change them and use them instead of washing their hands making it even more probable for contamination.

It's possible...from what I recall as a 5 year old it was the Harrison Ave location near alpine, but if someone has a better memory than I do feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

@@Blahbevava Man, if it was, they went through a lot of changes. And not in a good way! I grew up right behind highlander on Alpine. A whole lot changed from what is was in the late 80s to mid 90s..

@@xAKALISx Indeed things have changed. I grew up very close to you then and worked at that Hilander for a couple years in the early 00's. Went to AC Thompson elementary.

@@Blahbevava No way! Went to AC Thompson also! Use to walk to Highlander through the dead end and laundromat there. Before the bike path was a thing and the corner of charles and alpine was a gas station.. We knew the family that owned it/ran it. They run the uhaul behind papa johns across the street

@@xAKALISx That's Awesome, thanks for sharing. Got to wonder if we ever ran into each other or knew each other. I started AC Thompson in Kindergarten in 1987 and was there until roughly 1992. I grew up down just off of Charles st. in the Maple-Wood subdivision near the quarry. Used to get my haircut at Alpine Barber shop. Many stores no longer around there like Pet Center, Radio Shack, Ann's Pizza, and of course Eagle Foods.
