It took me years to realize that "808 State" was named after the TR-808 drum machine. The name of this particular song, "Pacific State", always made me think the band name referred to the State of Hawaii, whose area code is 808....and "808 State" was like a Hawaii state of mind (i.e. sun, ocean, surfing, chilling, etc.). I over-analyzed like I always do!

If you were in the rave scene back then, it was truly surreal, I mean gigantic. Forget the likes of Glastonbury, that is nothing compared to the rave scene back in the day. That weird bird call is from a bird called Loon, and it it is actually a bird who lives in the northern temperate zone. The loon's eery call has become a staple sound effect in movies when they want to create a desolate and spooky atmosphere. The sample has been a bit mangled by 808 state, so it doesn't sound exactly like the bird anymore.

Jon Da Silva from the Hacienda, Alex Paterson from The Orb, the Slam boys and 808 State. Changed our lives forever. 30 years have passed but my love for House music has never waivered. This particular tune holds its own even after all these years. If you played it anywhere and at any time you'd light up peoples lives. A timeless classic.

1989 to us was like 1969 to the hippies.. we reached a cultural peak and the powers didn't like it. By the mid 90s Draconian laws were passed that effectively made it ILLEGAL for a movement like this to happen again, notably the Criminal Justice Bill, after this you couldn't play music loud in public.

I can’t even describe the effect this song has on my brain and consciousness. The most unusual and non-human noises hitting my soul better than human words at the best of times. It always gives me thoughts of something powerful out there beyond my limited human comprehension - a house friekennnn classic!!!

We was a lucky generation who could be free and rave , no stabbings , violence just dancing, I am 49 now and rules and change in young people today worry me. Tell your Mum to Rave on
@Mariamomo_5 жыл бұрын
@@PROTEK123 Very true! To be honest I find it scary to go out these days with all the knife crime/acid attacks going on. Not to mention young people my age are constantly worried about what they look like and posing. My mum tells me at raves no one cared about the way another person was dancing/what they looked like - it was about having a good time without judgement. It's a shame I couldn't experience it for myself but at least my mum, yourself and many others had a great time

my dad's told me how this is what he jammed to when he was my age. That was probably 2 years ago. I finally played this on Spotify last week. Instantly in love. Just listening to this makes me want to have lived in his time, a much more simpler time. Last week, I just absolutely blasted this through the speakers in the den while playing a game. I'm only 17, but damn this gives me feels for a time I won't experience.

This song is absurd, especially when you find out it's from the 80's, due to the level of synthesizers and mixes used. This is explicit in the part from 3:05 to 3:29, in the highlight in the last three seconds of this part that the effect of the music in reverse fits perfectly.
@gregg61733 жыл бұрын
I studied classical music at a professional level and went to raves in the mid 1980's. This is a timeless classic and takes me back to the vibe in the mid 1980's. Wow! great track!
