80s Sony Walkman Wm-22 Service & Overhaul - Retfurb Audio Refurb

In this video we give a retro 1984 Sony WM22 portable cassette player a minor service & refurb.
The walkman is in good overall condition and appears to be working as it should. However, We are going to test the unit before working on it.
There is a lot of minor scratching / marks on the unit, So we will work to polish these out as best as possible.
Lets see if we can get this classic walkman back to its former glory....

The WM-22 was released in 1984 and is a classic Sony walkman model.
It was a popular model, As it was aimed to appeal to a wider market.
The electronics were simple, But still produced the quality expected from the Sony brand.

How cool is that! Brought back some memories, my Walkman experience would have been late 80s, but the design didn't change much

Yeah, It is a proper retro unit. Pure nostalgia.

The shell was blue,and has completly chnged color, you can do the retroBright treatment on the shell.

Yeah, I was contemplating that. But Decided to polish up lightly, Just to remove most of the light marks.

Please could you advise which products you used in this service to clean the volume pots and also polish the case?

I use de-oxit for the pots. It is the one suitable for faders and pots. I use farecla G3 premium polish and use with the milwaukee mini polisher. You can flat down scratches with wet and dry sandpaper. 2000 grit would ideally, you do t want anything too course. Obviously don’t sand any of the text or details on the face. As it will take them off. I hope that helps.
