Hope you are doing okay. I just saw your post on Reddit and came to check this out. I have no idea where to start with my korg, but this is a start. Thanks!

I’m doing well, thanks! It’s honestly been a very long time since I last used Reddit, but I’m glad to know these earlier videos are still being seen, and that they’re still helping people! Thanks for watching!

I do like the sound, but I think it would be helpful to add 'why' certain settings were chosen for your patch.
@IanFelpel7 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% with your comment, and I wish I would have thought more about how to talk through that. Part of why I didn't is that I made this patch specifically for a song, and it came about as a happy accident (so many settings were chosen in light of that track). The next tutorial I'm planning will go in-depth on those certain settings, and if anyone would like to know the "why" on any settings on this patch, let me know and I'll make a follow-up video to address those. ;) Thanks again for the helpful feedback!

(I tend not to use Filter EG(mine@1)wearing headphones), I usually favour higher cut-offs, so I upped cutoff to 49 and VeloSens to 37 instead... I like that you kept Reso low. ;)

Ian Felpel I normally would keep this to my self, but I respect your work... I found this useful combing through the Plogue Chipsounds Guide: Console chip A"For CC minded-people, sawtooth harmonic levels correspond to:127, 61, 31 and 15." Oddly enough I found similar numbers displayed here: hep.physics.indiana.edu/~rickv/Making_complex_waves.html in my mind 0, 1, can(should) register/equate(on/off) to the harmonics above mentioned.... Console chip B"Nothing much to say, really only 3 square wav channels made by cutting the main clock by 1024,then by the value of the 6bit period registers. But this creates a surprisingly accurate pitch range." Especially I find the most difficult are Violin/String patches(if you make a mistake = Wolf Tone) I classify Violin/String, Calliope(Vintage Synth), Goblin, ForceField(Flute), Lightning type patches the most difficult, Piano can be as hard for me on my R3. Your favorite chiptune patch? Did I link to you the Microkorg DWGS list Paquito Salazar, last time?

Are those sounds at the beginning from the microkorg?
@kierenmoore32366 жыл бұрын
Cool. What is the background music/pads in this video ... ?
@IanFelpel6 жыл бұрын
I posted it in the description, but it’s my song “Saved,” which also uses the MicroKorg for those pads.

Hi Ian great tutorial ! Question do you think the original Microkorg is better than the Microkorg XL+ ?
@IanFelpel4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Good question. I’ve never used the XL+, but to my knowledge, it does have extra features the original MicroKorg does not. Just looking at the list on Wikipedia (though I highly advise to check Korg’s website or any other trusted source first on this), it definitely looks to be an improvement on the original. I’ve done alright getting away with just using the original MicroKorg, but if you’re interested in the XL+, I say go for it!

What synth (and or specific patch please?) is the pad in the background??!?!?!
@nichttuntun33646 жыл бұрын
Nabu M, You can use nearly every analog, digital and VA synth for that sound. :)
@nabum77496 жыл бұрын
Yeah, obviously, but I was curious about the specific patch, or settings!

Greetings, how many keys can be played at the same time, to create chords? Also, can you connect a MicroKorg to an external Keyboard and use that as to play instead?
@IanFelpel6 жыл бұрын
Varindra Lakhan Greetings! The Korg has four-note polyphony, so only four keys for chords. And yes, you can trigger it with an external keyboard via a MIDI cable.
@derivativ37 жыл бұрын
wow, those pads in the back, where did you get that sound? Cheers
@IanFelpel7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you're referring to the background track that has pads, every sound in it was made using the MicroKorg, with some subtle processing in Ableton. So the pads came straight from the MK.
@auralapse7 жыл бұрын
Any chance for a tutorial for that sound?
@IanFelpel7 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to go back and look at how I made it, but I’d be glad to share a tutorial for sure! :)

was about to ask the same thing! The tutorials you've made so far have really helped by the way, keep up the great work :)
@IanFelpel7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And yes, I just found out how I got that sound. I’ll make a tutorial, but there’s also a shortcut as well (because I didn’t realize I actually programmed the pads with a patch that already exists in the MK’s original presets lol).
@deanc20006 жыл бұрын
It sounds good, but it has only 4 notes of polyphony. Mininova has 18.

Does MiniNova has the Microkorg analogish sound?No.

Is it possible to use MK´s arppegiator with another synths by MIDI?
@IanFelpel6 жыл бұрын
YES. I’ll have to film a video ASAP on it, because it’s something I’ve been experimenting with lately. But to answer by comment, if you go to the Global settings on Edit Select 2, and switch Position from Pre to Post, it will send the arpeggiator’s notes through MIDI, so other synths can receive it. I’ve done this several times with the Minilogue.
