If you know my father Glenn at all, you know that he is a very humble man who doesn't self-promote or talk about his craftsmanship very much. You may also know that his work is revered and admired by fellow builders and players alike around the globe. After years of wanting to make a short film about him, I finally talked him into shooting it with me. Here's a small look into the man that gave me my passion for the banjo, and taking your time to pursue your finest work possible no matter what you're doing. This is my father's story.
All the best and keep rollin,
RC

Thanks, Russ, for this tribute to your dad. We always marvel at his many talents. And he always has the right tools to help his campmates. I'm grateful to know your family and to play joyfully together.

What a great piece! Your Dad seems like a very genuine and down to earth man...and what talent! You have seriously upped your video skills as well. That was as professionally done as any biographical documentary as can be found from high end filmmakers. Well done!

Man this made me so emotional. When your Dad was speaking about how hard it was to find information. I remember so well writing to people across the country and waiting for weeks to receive a little information! This brought back so many memories. Foxfire books were top of my list back in those days, and I still have them. Thanks for sharing!

That was terrific, Russ. From watching your videos, I knew your Dad was a fine musician, but I had no idea he was such a skilled instrument maker as well. Those banjos are beautiful. I admire him even more now.

Wow, Russ! I see where you get your talent and enthusiasm. Your dad is amazing. I'm the same age and fell in love with banjo at about the same time, but never got to his or your level by far. Thanks for sharing. 🪕

SO glad I fell across this .. I love your dad's thinking on finding ones way .. I am a traditional potter and have been playing clawhammer 50 years now so a lot of his stories are relatable to my history.. One used to learn a tune from a fiddler who was basically given it as a gift ..They would play it in a circle for 2 hours or more till you got the thing .. I had 20 years calling "Tatter Patch" " Dust the Table " because the fiddler who gave it to me was standing next to a dusty table and I couldn't remember the name of the tune (the internet has helped me clean up the B part as well by the way ) .. Lots to learn on the old KZbin ... Thanks for the great clip .If either of you end up visiting Connecticut stop by my pottery barn for some tunes ... Your Guy

I am very fortunate to own an old Vega #9 banjo that Glenn Carson restored. His level of creative professionalism is reached by very few in the world of lutherie. I owe him a dept a gratitude that I never will be able to repay. Thanks again Glenn, your talent and dedication to your craft are unsurpassed.

Nicely done! I got to play two of your dad's banjos at Clifftop a few years ago via an intro from Todd Clewell and Barb Schmid. I had brought my Marchione OM guitar made with some trippy burled mahogany from the 1950s that they though your dad would like to see. We had a fun hang. Stunning craftsmanship and playability. I hope I get to play one again someday.

Your best work Russ. I wish the technology could've been a little quicker to capture my Dad's singing and playing. His coal mining days has got the best of his lungs. He wasn't a super musician, but he's a super Dad. Your Dad is to, I can tell. God bless your family.
