Please do not judge Gavaskar who was the greatest batsman in the world at that time and had few bad days in the world cup.The best bowls and bowlers were reserved for him. Rival teams knew if they got him they got India. The world cup showed Indian cricketeers could succeed even when Gavaskar's genius was not available.

Gavaskar is the biggest batter of Indian cricket history after Sachin but he was going through a bad patch in that WC . Not getting runs doesn't mean he isn't trying , cricket is very tough when you are not in form

I think it was the acting choices made it seem fake, like he really didn't have a swollen foot. Later Miguel makes a comment about how he then believes it and he mentions critique was too harsh. Keep watching.

Mr gavaskar has always been a critic(character played by the actor) but he's one of the greatest. The west Indian bowling attack feared Mr swollen foot if u research beyond world cups. And mr swollen foot is the first player in the world to score 10k runs in test matches.

'MR SWOLLEN FOOT' is the reason Why India Produce the Greatest batters of Cricket...Sachin...Virat...Yuvraj...Dravid...Gavaskar was the Real OG...India's Finest and Greatest Batter I can say...Dude has 10000 test runs in the era when ball used to talk...not the bat...He was the only saving grace of Indian Batting back then...He was going through a rough patch during that WC...that doesn't give anyone any sort of right to question his contribution and dedication towards Indian Team...Mind your words buddy...He is not some random cricketer...His aura was in the same league as Kapil Dev...Sachin...Dhoni...Virat...He is THE SUNIL GAVASKAR...Respect the legend...

The people who are getting overly sensitive to gavaskar being called swollen foot must know that at that time Gavaskar was criticised for his poor form. Even though I don't believe it,there were rumours that Gavaskar didn't give 100% because he was just removed from captaincy before the tournament and a much younger Kapil Dev was made the captain. By that time Gavaskar was already a legend whereas Kapil Dev was a newbie. So the rumours were not absolutely baseless but I don't believe he deliberately underplayed...maybe he was low on morale,may be he had a bad form but what is undisputed is the fact that he had a forgettable world cup from an individual point of view. But the team still won!

@@ChaatNChat There was no way they could have shown Gavaskar in a poor light. Gavaskar in 70s and 80s was equivalent to Tendulkar in the 90s and 2000s just like kohli is in 2010s and 20s. All of them legends. The 1983 world cup victory changed everything. It created an interest in cricket that led to the Tendulkar era which ultimately led to the current kohli era. Gavaskar without any doubt is a legend but his performance in the 1983 world cup was naturally under scrutiny because of the situation. The press and rumour mongers were as harsh back then as they are now. And these rumours were not completely baseless. The movie tries to show it in the most polite way because Gavaskar like I said was a legend and if they had not portrayed him in this way then they had to completely ignore him. Imagine Tendulkar not performing well in 2011 world cup at all(he performed brilliantly according to his stature)and a movie is made specifically on 2011 world cup victory then it would be difficult to portray him or else he had to be completely ignored to avoid controversy. Gavaskar never complained about his portrayal in the movie because he knows his performance was not at the level of the player he was. He is mature enough to understand that. No one can ignore his contribution to Indian cricket but his performance in the world cup was dismal and I am sure he would agree with that too.

Isn't that way too harsh with swollen foot comments? He's a senior player in a world cup, it would seem he knows what he's doing? And what he's doing is not becoming a liability on his team? How well do you think he's gonna run between the wickets? Or field? Or bowl? How well can anyone endure pain and suck it up, for that long matches? There are reasons to not like Sunil Gavaskar, his game though, is not one of them

I think the way that it was presented (maybe because of acting choices) it didn't feel genuine, I thought it was going to be a story point that he just didn't want to play for some reason but when his team needed him most he was going to come through. It never happened like that so in the end it was an actual swollen foot and not a lie. (Even Miguel said that we shouldn't be too harsh about his foot somewhere in the video) I think it might have just been the acting choices that made us feel like it wasn't real.

@@ChaatNChat Yes Miguel did later on. It's understandable you guys not liking him. As i said there are reasons to not like Sunil Gavaskar. He is indeed one of the best players, but from what I've seen of him in interviews and heard from him in his commentaries, I don't like the guy either.

Gavaskar was an overrated player. Most of his centuries came against WI B teams. There was a ODI match where the team was chasing a big score, and he made 36(149)*. He mostly played for his personal records, with little to no commitment towards team.
