I was in a tough spot once and had no gas or money, i needed something to put gas in and couldn’t afford a gas can from the gas station. I had stopped by to ask if they had a can for me to borrow.. they had a 3 gallon gas can and it had some gas in it, they said take it and keep the can, “young man like you ought to have a gas can” I went back on payday with the gas can filled up but they refused to take it back. They probably don’t remember that act of kindness but i always will.

The Stokes Boys were best mechanics this world has ever seen and two of the finest and most honest men that ever lived in Brown County. They were my "go-to" mechanics for my entire life until they passed away. They kept my old cars running, just as they did my dad's before me. It seems they had a standard rate for me, $35, if it wasn't something they could fix for free. :)

@@sandra101705 , Odus, the tallest one (aka Big 'Un"), passed away a few years after this episode was shot. Orus only lived a year or two longer, I think. I spent many hours in that shop, getting my car fixed, and I never heard one word of argument between the two. I sure miss them, both as my friends and my mechanics. Instead of only paying a small amount to get my cars fixed, now I have to pay a fortune to get minor things repaired.

When I got my big red, white, and blue bumper stickers in, one of the first places I stopped was at the Stokes Brothers Garage. They put one on their old Ford pickup that they drove until I guess it wore completely out. That old sticker was still on their back bumper for about the next 20 years. :) That was the only bumper sticker of any kind that I ever saw on their vehicles.
