Brady would probably destroy the Bears' 46 defense. Dan Marino showed that a QB with a quick release could neutralize the Bears' relentless pressure and slip passes behind their front 8 time and time again. Against a defense that relied on 3 backs running man coverage in the secondary, a receiver with the ball could gain a lot of yards after the catch. That's why teams rarely run the 46 defense anymore, except maybe as a change-of-pace gimmick.
@robertoneill6826 жыл бұрын
It would be like the Giant did to undefeated Brady he is not Dan Marino you mention a different type of quaterback plus if brady would have play in there era. He would have been knock out because he do not have that quick release like Marino have.
@10Peter256 жыл бұрын
@@robertoneill682 Possibly. I admit I may have made more of a generalization from the proliferation of spread-style offenses now in vogue in the NFL and applied it to Tom Brady. Though Brady didn't do that badly against the Giants' relentless attempts to knock him on his ass in SB42, Steve Spagnuolo's pressure schemes did make life hard for Brady and make a big contribution to their win over the previously unbeaten Patriots (that and A LOT of luck on one play).

The Redskins torched the Bears D in the 86 playoffs, McMahon had nothing to do with it
@Ram447 жыл бұрын
You are way too simple minded. Sure it had something to with it. With McMahon the Bears probably would move the ball and not make as many turnovers, which made it easier for the Redskins to score when the Bears did turn it over. Flutie threw 2 interceptions and fumbled. The Redskins didn't torch them. Their longest run was 12 yards. Plus Buddy Ryan was gone, which made a difference. With untested Doug Flutie, the Redskins feasted on him. I don't know why Ditka played him. With McMahon one of the winningest QBs of the 80's, the Bears would have had a much better chance.

This team was full of characters right out of a movie and we loved it all. It's too bad Buddy left because had he stayed, I think things could have been different. All of the John Hughes movies en capsule exactly what my teenage years were in the northern Chicago suburbs. In fact, they were all filmed within 1-10 miles of my house. Buddy Ryan predicted Dickerson would fumble twice in this game, totally got in his head.
@johnwhyte2638 Жыл бұрын
Ryan was talking about Dickerson for good reason! The Bears had played Eric twice by 85. In 83 Eric had 127 yards rushing, 17 yards receiving and 2 TDs in a win. In 84 Eric had 149 yards rushing and 2 TDs in another win. Buddy was trying to shift the focus on Eric and not on how his defense couldn't seem to stop Eric. Even in this game Eric barely got the ball in the 2nd half yet ended up with 46 yards (more than Walter would get and 1 more fumble than Walter). In 86 Eric put 111 yards on the Bears in Chicago in a win, then in 88 put 101 yards and a TD on the Bears in a loss as a lowly Colt. In every game against Chicago Eric had a different QB and none of them were any good lol. The Bears could stick 9 men at the line knowing the ball was going to 29 and on every occasion but one the best defense of the decade couldn't stop him. Ryan was right to be worried about #29.

I am a Raiders fan but this 85 Bears team is my favorite team ever

Pound for Pound and player for player imo the '85 Bears are better than the Steel Curtain. The Curtain was great; especially Mean Joe and Jack Ham, but they never demolished teams like this 85 Bears team did.

Mike Singletary was the heart of that defense

In five games that year, Pat and John saw the Bears' opponents score a grand total of six points. "Well men, as you know if five minutes we play the '85 Bears. What you may not know is that Pat Summerall and John Madden are calling the game. So let's just all get back in our street clothes and go home. We're not accomplishing anything here today...."

After SuperBowl XX Mike Singletary said,"what got the Patriots to the Super Bowl, we didn't see it that day." The Bears rocked that season. I wish their defense was just like the Bears defense right now because the Bears defense right now is terrible. Go Bears!

Patriots were a running football team and the Bears strength was stopping the run. They didn't match up well with the Bears.

The 85 Bears were unreal unstoppable on and off the field these guys walked on water. Don’t forget the Super Bowl shuffle.
