The engine is 2GR... Toyota Sienna. Not sure what trans he is using. H pattern 2GRs use the EB60 series or E153 and E351 gearboxes, obviously his is sequential.

I'm not really a fan of the looks of the MR-S zzw30 but this one stands apart, and the performance speaks for itself. love that he went from a lotus with a Toyota engine to the mr2 with what assume is the same Toyota v6 that's in the Evora cool to see the brand loyalty. and I'm sure there will be more to come from that car and driver

There were 3 different models over the years. The W10, W20 and W30. The W20 car had a reputations for a loose arse - Pieter has the W30. Light and handles beautifully.

The second generation has the largest reputation for “snap oversteer.” The problem with that reputation is that it is generated by drivers who go into corners too hot and then lose their nerve and lift. Yes, having a slight rear weight bias can make them a little more tail happy, but a driver who will commit to a line and speed will almost always come out without issue.

Another thing that contributes to the "unstable" rumour is the fact the ZZW30 looks like it has a very short wheelbase. In reality, the overhangs are super short and the wheelbase matches that of much larger sports cars like the latest gen 911 GT3.

The MK3 Roadster like this one is a fantastic handling car and a great platform to build on. It’s a hugely enjoyable car to drive, lift off oversteer is a potential issue but that’s all mid engine cars.

It's not just any 2GR, like a FKS or FSE, it's a single turbo 2GRFE. A lot of people lump the lot together but the FE is the only one making big power currently. Guys have made +700whp on a bone stock unopened block. With the mods that Peter has done, no doubt we'll see reliable triple digits soon out of this engine soon. ZTR Tuning has already hit +1000hp with their 2GRFE power drag car celica.

@@TEKSMRT the 2gr-fe is definitely a formidable engine, but the reason people aren’t using the -fse or -fks engines yet is because there isn’t anyone who’s put in the time and money to make the direct injection on those engines function correctly…yet. Until someone figures out the stock ecus for those motors or spends the money on an aftermarket unit capable of handling the GDI, it isn’t a gain to start with them. Someday, someone will get there, and they’ll likely wind up with something even more powerful then.
