Got a few crops burned off to the south of us especially down Jeremy’s way. I’ve cut lots of barley ripe, baled and fed it, it’s just fine for feed. Barley is a bitch to dry down in the milk stage I’ve found. I’ve fed lots of rough awn barley greenfeed and yellow feed or swath grazed it with no problems at all either. That crop is definitely burning off though.

Back the crimpers off on your rollers if you cut it with the haybine, it’ll save you some of the grain. You probably know that anyway, but it makes a huge difference.

I would bale what you need for feed. If you had a bale wrapper? that is what I would do with that nice feed. Cattle will love that smooth beard. Save enough for next years seed, and sell or contract the rest. If it test right you may just get malt price.

Looks like barley is just maturing early for the most part. Stressed spots always ripen faster. Early harvest
@sagecrockett693Ай бұрын
As green feed you have more volume of feed in that field than if you wait to combine the grain. I'd go with the feed and just don't feed your cattle grain this winter unless you have some left from last year. As you know cattle do very well on greenfeed and in winter they devour it.

Hey BP and CP. Its kinda nice having a few square bales around . Need to get some made ourselves for the barn. Interesting dilemma on the barley. If you need the hay, then cut it. Looks like there is grain in the heads if you can get a shot of rain in the next week or so, you would be able to harvest it. Were you going to use the grain for feed or cash??

@@bcpfarmandtrucking6560 guess that is a head scratcher. If you wait and it doesn't rain, you could have light bushel weight grain which wouldn't be worth a whole bunch.
