So I cried and cried...with this movie and with your beautiful video. Sadly I can relate to the movie. I'm not even sure why I'm writing this here, but it was just painful how both of us had to drift apart because we were scared of the limitations and barriers we thought existed between us. I haven't been able to fall in love again. I'm sure he hasn't either. I'm scared to see myself age without him. But the final scene of the movie seems so vivid.

When does true love end? Answer: It doesn't. 21 years on now. Better to have loved and lost...I know what my last thoughts will be.

Che attore sublime, come ha fatto a interpretare la dolcezza di Newland Archer e l avidità di Daniel Plainview, sembrano due persone diverse ed è lo stesso attore, un miracolo!

i have chosen this movie for a cineforum in Milan: we are going to show it because we like it so much and hope that the audience will appreciate it as they should, i am glad to see that it is considered to be underrated, it really is

This version of “Una furtiva lagrima” by Pavarotti is the best I’ve have ever heard, passionate but plain. Very appropriate in this context. I love this movie very much and I think it’s not only a beautiful touching love story bust also a great historical portrait of New York, a recurring theme in Scorsese’s works. Maybe somebody remembers the scene of a crowd of bowler-hatted men battling a wind gale in the newly born New York business district. Behind them one of the new skyscrapers being flung up in those years, maybe the Flatiron Building, I’m not sure. In this scene the background music was Marble Halls performed by Enya. The scene lasts just a few seconds but it tells so much

I am a fan (and singer) of "Una Furtiva Lagrima," rather than the film. Thank you for this beautiful combination where I can hear the brilliant tenor Luciano Pavarotti (I believe) and also see a brilliant Scorsese film.

it should be, maybe too many Scorsese fans prefer gangsters and violence

Another great job, Serena. You have an exceptional eye and ear for editing... It's been noted elsewhere, but Scorsese is reputed to have labeled "Age of Innocence" as his "most violent" film. Difficult to dispute...

@vanhattan This is not original score from the film (whose composer was the great Elmer Bernstein), it is from an Italian opera. But I'm really happy you're going to see this for the first time, it means I've done my job.

@secretcinema1 Thanks so much! Any response saying they want to watch the film, either for the first time or again, is worth the time and trouble. I hadn't planned on making one, I just heard this opera piece 3 weeks ago and the images from the film came into my head, and I whipped this up in about 2 weeks, which is really quick for me. And I think my next one will be concerning the films of Douglas Sirk.

Where are the scenes with Winona Ryder?
@donschwellenbach54618 жыл бұрын
sometimes there were things that Ellen would say or do in the beginning that made me wonder was she using her feminine wiles to allure Archer, such as crying about her abusive husband, acting so contradictory to society at that time, which I think she knew men liked, was this maybe why her husband was abusive to her, was she a flirt in her other life? just wondering
@britjj51264 жыл бұрын
Yes for someone so independent it was a little bit surprising to see her not care about being vulnerable around Archer. Possibly aided in him falling for her. Men like to feel protective.
@mizofan3 жыл бұрын
@@britjj5126 Men are instinctively protective towards women, whereas society in various countries puts little value on male safety; male lives are more expendable.
