86. IKEA DETOLF BUILD, who says you need TWO people to build an IKEA Detolf?!

We are adding some display cabinets to the Lego Studio, this is the IKEA Detolf, a popular display cabinet for Lego collectors!
£60 and available with either a white or black top and bottom. It also has 360 degree glass, so great for possibly displaying to the public in a more secure way, with the back facing towards them, rather than the door side.

I bought one of these in 2006. I put it together then took it apart when i moved in 2011. i did it all by myself. I display New York Yankees glasses, bobbleheads and stadium giveaways.

It might be better to leave them last still, because they are horrible stickers that leave residue, you kind of need to hold them up to the light to see the residue left to remove.

Tip... when you screw in hinges in the door just screw them both in, what you want to do is the part when you added the top don’t screw the 4 in completely so when you add the door you just lift the top a tad and slide in door then completely screw the 4 screws on top!

Hello, I have a question. Does it ultimately keep the dust of the LEGO sets? Cause I've been thinking about buying Detolf.

Kind off. It’s more so than my Billy that has doors. It helps to have something overhanging the top gap, to prevent dust falling into it naturally through gravity. The Ikea Kallax range is great because companies like Wicked Brick now make doors etc for them.

I am having the same issues as you, where one of the the top screws does not seem to want to latch on to the poles? What was your solution? The glass looks seated

I know it seems odd, but unscrew them all and double check it all, things can easily be missed. wiggle it a bit, push the top down a bit whilst wiggling, also check that something actually hasnt fallen in the groove of the wood too. Then try the screws again. Let me know how you get on! Good Luck!

Double check that all of the metal rods are in correctly and that the glass is in. We had trouble lining ours up and we noticed that the glass was not in the cut out grooves of the wood! Let us know if any luck!

You might need to double check the joins, as if any are slightly out, it could cause problems. Also check the feet are level/all touching, the other day ours moved to a slightly uneven part of the floor and the door didnt close. Hope this is useful.

I found that it can rock and move if the feet are uneven. Also if there is not much in there, or the contents in there are light this could happen. Lastly if the floor is laminated, which ours is, the plastic feet can slide, but a pad on each foot might solve these problems.

@@admsenpai2294 my door touched the top magnet first then the bottom. I found the floor was uneven. Because the glass and metal is the main support for it, if one foot is on a different level to the rest, it can bend the frame causing the magnets to make contact at different times. Try and check the floor is flat and all the glass panels are fully inside their grooves at the top and bottom.

@@admsenpai2294 gosh that sucks. You ok? Not injured I hope. Did it come out of the brackets? When I was screwing them in I was careful not to break the glass. It’s very hard to know how tight they should be.

Yeah don’t do that. They are supposed to fold over. If you do by accident they still work if done correctly , but not designed to work that way.

If you really don’t feel safe doing it so ask for help from someone. I myself used a bunch of boxes to hold the first pane of glass upright.

@@ThatBrickSHOW I got the help but its the part to.hold glass thats too hard to put in and when I do get one in the next side comes out I never seen something so hard to fix it's p me off I use oil to try slide it in not even that work kmt

@@DJLOCSMITH if you are putting in the corner into the wood first and it still doesn’t work, I would try putting it in the plastic bit first, then maybe easing the glass into the plastic more until it then positions itself into the wooden groove at the bottom front of the unit.
