I had the same motor ran great. I think it was a collaboration between Mercury and Yamaha.

think until 1991 MARINERs were made by YAMAHA but not all of them.in the mid 80's some MARINERs 8hp,9.9hp,20hp,25hp were MERCURY.Also the big horsepower MARINERs were always MERCURY.

I have the same series engine in 30 hp on a 14’ stick steer fiberglass boat. Very similar year, built by Yamaha. I love it. I enjoy your videos, it’s nice you could take your friend along this time. Lol. Do you sell all the outboards you fix and test? If so where do you list them? Thanks.

@@jonathanwood5681 Hi Jonathan, I am using an 11x15 the dealer has placed in my 4 stroke yamaha F40 and it seems that it is lifting the bow a lot and dragging before plane. I have to start with trim fully down and once it planes I am able to trim at 50%. But always feels like bow is too high initially which makes it drag. I wonder if a 13 would quickly make it jump to plane and "that's it". I havent tested max wot as engine is new and sea conditions didnt allow. I am thinking about a 12 pitch. Boat weight is 220kg, engine 95kg, 4 passengers with another total weight 220kg. Plus equipment. This is roughly 550kg total. What do u think?
@jonathanwood56813 жыл бұрын
@@HF1600ie A 12 pitch is so smooth at getting "my" RIB on the plain and yours is quite heavy I would think that it could also be faster at WOT . just me on mine is only 300kg so the 15 pitch goes on loaded up with family back to 12
@HF1600ie3 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanwood5681 The dealer just fit a regular 10 3/8 13 G pitch in there. With 4 people in the boat the 15 was really too much. I was going really fast at 4400rpm and I was far from wot. Faster than I'd expect for that boat. So, this means that 15 was too much as under normal condition that speed would match close to 5000rpm. I haven't tested it yet, but I think that either a 13 or a 12 will be the right choice for a reasonable compromise. Something tells me 12 is the right one. I will also try 10 5/8 12" 4 blade.

Hi, I have the same motor and the magnetto lever that connects to the stator is not smooth in rpm ranges. It gets stuck even after using penetrating oil and turning it a few hundred times. It doesn't run smoothly when I accelerate so the engine Boggs down unless I turn the lever all the way to the right, also it idles at high rpm speed because lever doesn't go back. Any idea what it could be?

Thank you for this video. I have same engine on my bonwitco 400. I have a problem with a clip thats connected to 2 springs...i think it keeps the engine from coming out of water when you go in reverse. Its rusted away. Do you have any remedy that you know of for fixing this. I cannot get part anywhere? I tried to make what i thought was a copy out of it from shaping a piece of stainless steel, but it was all wrong dimensions. Maybe a couple of bungie cords from the transom, round the engine and back to transom again. Lol😄

@@caithimhjoe2135 Hey, how did you sort this out? I have an '83 Mariner/Yamaha 40hp and the motor kicks up when I give it any throttle in reverse. I don't want the motor to lock in the downward position when going forward because I run it alot on the river. I only want it to lock downward when going in reverse. How'd you fix that? Thanks.

I just had that exact motor given to me. It seems to be in fine shape. But I need a throttle control box for it. Could you tell me which one I need? I'm guessing a 703 yamaha but there is different variants of that box
@vojomatusenko4 жыл бұрын
deerslayer303B hi, yes 703 box will work. Just make sure it acts like this: when lever on box is moved forward (shifting to forward gear) end of the shifter cable on motor side is retracting, in other words cable end needs to be pulling your shifter handle on motor. Then as you continue pushing shifter lever on box forward throttle cable needs to be retracting - pulling your throttle lever to advance throttle. Never had 703 box which would not work this way. Even some older style mercury boxes works the same way. I have few 703 boxes if you are interested email me Vojomatusenko@yahoo.com.
