I was command of a structure fire in my district and one of my firefighters got burned in the process of an interior attack when fire conditions changed and escalated rapidly. Thankfully his injuries were minor, however the Cincinnati Fire Department had heard of a firefighter injured and enroute to University of Cincinnati. They had personnel in the hospital awaiting his arrival, and remained until his discharge. I dont know who they were, but they were there. I love those guys!

Thank you for this documentary! My Dad was a Cincinnati Fire Fighter...was always so proud of him. We knew as kids that our Dad had a dangerous job and always so happy to see our Dad come home as we were leaving for school. My dad retired from the 24's and I will forever be grateful to the firefighters at that house for being there when our Dad passed. Be safe guys!

It helps to know a bit of their routine. Why they do what they do. Sometimes it seems as if they take too long to do something, so the explainations help understand the protocol. It would help to tell civilions what they can do to help yet not get in the way. Having a fire in your home or apartment complex, it helps if we know what to do to help. And not everyone plans for their animals, so it would help to know how best to protect their animals. I had crates for my animals ready just in case, just as I did for tornados. I would like to tell every firefighter that if I ever die in a fire that I know they did everything to save my life and that I honor their effort and hope that they could each and every one to feel my hug to them in thanks.

I cant believe what i hear here. 3:37 "somebody had pulled the alarm system ..." ... "so usually when that happens we get a limited response". Here in germany i smelled something in the basement (multi unit house) behind a door i had no access to. I never called for fire before, and i told the dude on the telephone that ~"i dont know if there is something, but it smells ...". I also told him ~"i dont wanna make trouble ....bla bla..." ... He just said ~"its all fine. We send somebody to look at that." He also said i should go outside to let them see where the entry is ect. It was almost night at this time ... ... i heard a siren ... ... and then i realized: thats sirenS (multiple) ... and then there came 1 little truck around the corner ... and then there came 1 BIG truck around the corner ... and another big one ... and more small ones .... and police .... OMFG ... IM FUCKED ! :D I talked with FF and cops, and they told me its all fine. They MUST send the full set(?) on every call. Because there is no time for "Ok, there is really something. The rest can come over now". It cost me nothing. They said a lot of calls are like that. At the end i found out that there was known problems with vents in the heating(?) rooms of multiple units|entries. So i guess what i smelled was the gas driven heater smell that would have been actually ventilated. _And BTW: i was focking impressed how fast and professional they were. Huge respect._

If all apartments, houses and stores just had sprinkler systems, much life and property would be saved (and those guys would be out of business, except for accident runs.) Yeah, 3000 died on 9/11, but that was a SPECIAL case.
@johnb619
@johnb619 5 жыл бұрын
Ahhhh I see what your trying to say but the amount of pressure that sprinkler system has to have to take out the fire would be a lot and from smoke and steam how is a victim In a burning house supposed to get out it’s a lot of factors
@drpoundsign
@drpoundsign 5 жыл бұрын
@@johnb619 Well, if you examine the statistics, the sprinkler system reduces Deaths about 80-90% and two active "heads" are enough for most fires. I suspect the other deaths are from things like gas line blasts and immolation. Remember, a cigarette or spark starts most blazes, and one head can extinguish them, with the pressure drop alarm alerting the FD. Also, the sprinkler is five gallons/minute. When you have to go in with your hoses, its Thousands of gallons...Massive water damage!
@johnb619
@johnb619 5 жыл бұрын
thaddeus buttmunch Yeah I see what your saying but still depending on a lot of factors firefighters would still be needed in some way shape or form like let’s say a building is not up to code and their sprinklers don’t work and for the victim it’s visibility you can’t see nothing in a burning building your all disoriented from it and smoke inhalation you pass out somebody needs to pull you out or else your in a whole heap of trouble but sprinklers and firefighters make a good team in my opinion
