Thank you! Our 94 4 banger YJ needed the multi wiper switch replaced. Tried to replaced from the top. Impossible. removing the steering column was easy thanks to your video. Screws in the inside pointing up held the parts together. Only way to get to it was to remove the steering column $163 switch at Oriles. The first switch we got $100, but didn't fit. There are 3 switches for the year. Of course the one I need is the most expense.. sigh.

You. Have. No. Idea. How. Much. You. Helped. Me. Seriously, after re-installing my old ignition switch (don't work in the dash in low light), I could find nothing, not even GM column videos for my 92 xj. You made me want to breathe again thinking I wouldn't be able to get to a job interview this week I really want broke because of Uber. Your struggles were very helpful. On my 91 xj with tilt I couldn't figure out how to keep the plastic linkage piece from popping to the side. I didn't realize that the small cover kept it in place. There really needs to be a thorough video on doing this. The tilt column ate TRICKY.

Thank you for this video. I swapped in a new turn signal switch on my 95 YJ and found the vid to be very helpful. I'm usually the one to break stuff and add to the job, but I was able to avoid that with your help. Instead of using the coat hanger, I used your first idea. What I did was just replaced the horn , head light dimmer switch , directional switch , wiper switch , removed the steering wheel lock but that is OK because I have a brand new 1911 steering wheel lock in my new holster switch on my hip , 4 ways switch and key switch with after market parts. There is no longer any original parts left in the steering column any longer. no more hassles. And I also have a push button and remote starter switch to replace the key . Much easier to work on and repair in the future. So now the only thing my steering column does is steer my JEEP. It was a very inexpensive change..........Life goes on............ HAPPY JEEPING.......

My 93 YJ with 316,000 on it was doing same thing. Lever drooped a little down and would actually sometimes turn left signal light on but not blinking like that on its own. Those springs in your video help keep it centered but what keeps it right is the contact dimples on the two plates under the top part that rub and make contact with those other contacts on the lower plate. Mine were almost worn flat. I also took a thin rod and filed a square on the end to fit in the release opens in the plug. Did it also to the old one and tied a heavy shoestring to it and pulled string up thru channel. Be sure to note carefully where wires go. It was not complicated since on my part, wires were attached as a ribbon and went in order. Then with plug off new switch , I tapped it flat and to the string and it pulled right down thru there. When I release that little finger on the male terminals and pull it from plug, I needed to take a small blade and pry the finger back up so it relocked in plug. All is good.

Nightmare relived. I have a ‘90 YJ and I replaced all of that as well plus the ignition switch which is down the steering column connected by a long metal rod to the tumbler. Everything. Got most parts from Omix Ada. That wiring harness I didn’t have to do too much disassembly but I could not figure it out without taking apart everything until I got an idea I went with. I pulled the blinker assembly towards me stretching out the old wiring harness. I clipped the wires at the switch. I then removed all the new wires from the new connector with a pin removing tool I bought on amazon. I then taped the new harness to the old harness and fished it all back through by pulling on the old wiring harness. I had taken many photos of the wires and connector and pushed all the wires back into the connector where they all went. Undid the old connector and connected the new one. I have that same harbor freight puller but I wish I saw your video 3 years ago when I did mine because I did not know about that fork compressor. That little clip ring was a bitch. But in the end, everything works perfect like new. You only wanted to change your tumbler and got sucked into the vortex. I only wanted to change the blinker switch because the cheap plastic emergency flasher pull switch had broken off. Then the vortex took over and everything is new now including the blinker/washer lever that snapped right on perfect. It was a complete bitch, but worth it.
@JuicedMoose
@JuicedMoose 5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like we both had the same hell. But in the end it was worth it. Everything works. I did change my ignition switch on bottom of column too. Then after that the starter relay took a dump. The vortex never truly ends.

My steering lock has never worked since I bought this jeep used long ago. How to repair it for me means finding another steering column I think. Or change the parts. Thanks for the video, I replaced the ignition cylinder and turn signal switch. Looks like i might have to go back in and replace the windshield wiper switch too, it takes a lot of downward pressure to engage the left blinker, not sure if it is the windshield wiper mechanism or not. Anyhow, when I put it all back together my steering wheel was not aligned right, everything works, but it's not aligned. I tried to take it apart and recenter it but it doesn't appear to work like this. Is the only way to mess with the idler arm and steering rod? Did I do something wrong putting it back together?

@@JuicedMoose Thanks for the reply and quick reply at that. You video was definitely a great help, so thanks again. I ran out tonight and took it apart again. My steering wheel does lock and when I took it off I remember when I took off that plate that's under pressure and held on with the clip, it became disengaged from the lock and when it wasn't under pressure it rotated to the right. Which is the direction the wheel was turned and misaligned after I put it back together. Now that plate is keyed to only go in one way, but this time after the plate back on, I temporarily put the steering wheel back on with the ignition turned to on to disengage the steering wheel lock, then turned the wheel slightly left until I got one notch further to the left than it was and turned the ignition off and engaged the lock. Then took the steering wheel off and replaced the black plastic cover and then reassembled everything back together. It was dark out, but I took it around the block, and unless it's my imagination it is almost perfectly centered. Just slightly off to the right. I would have thought all I had done was slightly rotate the wheels a bit to the left, but somehow it worked and it appears to be much more straight and aligned than it was. I don't recall how centered and straight it was before all this, I just got the jeep, but I do know it wasn't misaligned as bad as I had it. Anyhow, it seems to be fixed and your video was a great help.

Pulling the fuse to stop wipers is a pain. Obviously the motors good. I would think there is a short in the switch. I don't believe there is a wiper relay. Change switch is my guess. Something is grounded and making motor run
