At the end Ryan, I think what it means by “these memories are not familiar to you at all. It’s as if you’ve lived the same day over and over. Is there a way to break the cycle? Those outside the forest think you’re already dead. So is this true” is the person is dead but there spirit still haunts around the forest. And so it keeps living the same day over and over again because it doesn’t really remember what happened to it. All those things that your seeing in the game isn’t real so the spirit thinks all those things are real but it knows there not.

finally i can find someone to hypothesize about the story of this game. in my theory (if not counting the lines of the ending), the policeman we controlled before went into the forest alone to find the body but unfortunately was murdered by the killer but he didn't want to accept his ending and wanted to go back to the starting point to find all the bodies, the monsters were the image of the killer to make him less scared when facing him, after completing the mission, his journey was recorded on the tape in the real world, the bodies appeared to thank him and remind him if he forgot that he was missing and murdered. in the end the policeman accepted to sacrifice himself in exchange for the safety of the people.
