Fun Fact: The weird Sonic with the humanoid face is from the secret sound test menu from Sonic CD. The screen wasn’t intended to be creepy but the music being changed from being sent to America, the quote being from Majin which is Japanese for devil (but is actually the nickname for one of the people who work at SEGA/made the screen), and the humanoid face on Sonic (which is actually Majin’s face put on to Sonic which is an odd design choice but whatever) cemented as something scary to people. (Also, the other Sonic in the other secret song is the Lord X version of Sonic.EXE)

As soon as you start up the mod hit the following keys on the main menu where the logo is: Up, Down, Left, Right, and then ENTER key. Someone probably mentioned it but Endless is actually a reference to a real thing in a Sonic game, to my knowledge unrelated to Sonic.EXE. In the game Sonic CD for the Sega CD addon, there was a sound test menu you can access and just like in the mod, there's specific codes you can input to get some funny looking images (And in fact the code used to access it is the same as in CD. Keep in mind some regions might have a third middle number to input as well). Input that code and you'll get the screen with this kind of Sonic. I imagine part of the reason why it's here is cause it was one of those creepy things that spread around the internet due to the North American one being creepy and off putting due to the music and odd imagery.
