Ms. Kanyakumari is a native of Vijayanagaram, A.P. and has been living in Chennai for more than 4 decades. She belongs to a family of musicians. Her parents Sri Avasarala Ramarathnam and Smt.Jayalakshmi encouraged her immensely to pursue music. She was fortunate to be a disciple of three great legendary Gurus, Ivaturi Vijeswara Rao, M. Chandrasekaran and the outstanding Vocalist...M. L. Vasanthakumari. Listening to her sparkling brighas and intricate sangathis while she had just started to tread her musical journey, the respected music critic Mr. Subbudu compared her music to the ever-glittering diamond stud in the nose ring of the "Goddess Kanyakumari" - --the renowned Temple that lies in the southern tip of India. Ever since she has received innumerable accolades and praise from audiences worldwide and discerning critics for her innovation, accompaniment and solo performances while at the same time strictly adhering to the Carnatic Music tradition. Needless to say it is her dedication and sincere hard work along with the able guidance of her Gurus (as mentioned above) and all those ultimately groomed her into a front ranking Violinist. {It is a blessing for me...I attended in person her recitals a number of times both in Chennai and in at Cary, USA } Her creativity (the ability to make new things) is astounding...that means causing a feeling of great surprise. Her extensive experience spanning more than four decades combined with a sharp acumen and fine sense of creativity has earned her a distinct place. She has evolved her own style of melodious playing and silken bowing which closely resembles vocal music rhapsodizing audiences all over. Sure, I feel her violin music leads us nearer to the divinity. She has many successful creative innovations to her credit. "Vadya Lahari" her brain child is a new combo of the Violin, Veena and Nadaswaram. "Tristhayi sangamam" that is the confluence of three violins playing in different octaves portraying a special dimension. "Carnatic Music Ensembles" of 25, 50, 75 and 100 violins as well as 100 instrument ensemble commemorating the millennium A music piece "100 ragamalika swarams" which exposes her dexterity in bringing out the raga swarupam in just one avarthana each. 29 hours non stop marathon performance. They are all great. She has dedicated her life to music and is grateful to the Almighty, Gurus, Parents, students, Sabhas, Critics and Rasikas for their continued support. She mentioned many ragas but she begins with Nattai. Which, of course, is wonderful to listen to. The main piece is in Hindolam in RTP pani, and she sings Samaja Vara Gamana krithi by St. Thyagaraja, with Swara ragamalika in Kapi, Charukesi (so moving that you get too emotional listening to this part), Revathi, AnandaBairavi, ShivaRanjani. The amazing part, after the Shiva Ranjani, she plays these ragas backwards to conclude the piece in Hindolam. Simply amazing! She did not include Keeravani and KarakaraPriya (lovely ragas). Please listen to this piece everyday for better health.

@@chandrasekharkv158 42:22 Kapi, 47:18 Charukesi, 51:35 Revathi, 54:49 AnandaBairavi, 57:01 Shiva Ranjani - These are swaras for the ragamalika and no special krithi. It is the continuation of samja vara Gamana Krithi. She does play a bit of Kurai Ondrum Illai during Shiva Ranjani. At 59:49 she goes back to Ananda Bairavi, revathi, Kapy and Hindolam in about two minutes to conclude the Krithi. Amazing, of course. Please talk to you elders and they will explain better.
