8th Dan Iaido Master Explains the Differences Between Inyō Shintai & Gyakuté Inyō Shintai

So today, Seki sensei, an 8th Dan Iaido Master with 40 years of experience in Musō Shinden Ryu, will demonstrate and explain the differences between Inyō-Shintai and Gyakuté Inyō-Shintai. He will not only perform each Kata on his own, but Tsukada Sensei will help us to understand the opponent’s movements too. If you are a trainee of Musō Shinden Ryu, this video will absolutely help you deepen your understanding of these two Kata.

As part of your efforts to preserve the ryuha, do you think Seki Sensei and Tsukada Sensei would be comfortable performing Kata during motion capture? We could start a crowdfund for the costs, and then the captured data could be made available to the public. I acknowledge that nothing beats hands-on training directly from a proper instructor, but I still think this could be really interesting and a smart preservation effort.

Would make more sense for the ryuha to retain the data and control access to it/use it to generate revenue, instead of just releasing it for free where it can be misused without seki sensei's guidance.

people need Seki Sensei, because they are too lazy or unable to imagine what they are even doing when they perform Kata. I don't do Iaido, but when I did Karate Kata, I always visualized the enemies I am fighting against in my mind, that helps understand what the forms are for.

so i was wondering, i noticed that in a lot of katas there are walking motions that from the outside seem to have no practical purpose. like in these katas, between where Seki sensei did the shiburi and sheathed his katana. i'm probably just being ignorant, but is there a purpose to these movements?
