But at this stage in fifa, with consumables being so cheap should I just be investing in the main team and scrap the other? In addition, in game do you switch to other tactics (ex. high press, counter attack)?

Just look out for cheap Team Fitness cards, sniped a lot for 300. Invest in your main Team and get used to it :)
