I remember when these ex WM Ailsas first rocked up in the mid 80s on the 140 from Harrow - Heathrow, during the Transport for London low cost unit "Harrow Buses" era. Given the choice of the Metrobus Mk 2s, also employed at Harrow Weald depot, or one of these showing up, it was this for me, every time. A very exotic bus indeed for London

I rode on the prototype 4527 from Wythall to Maypole and she was just as loud being thrashed like 4738. It was a great day for all ages and well done to all involved in making it such a successful day especially all the happy hour buses. Great video of 1 beast of an Ailsa how they should be driven IMHO the gear changes are what gives them their character

The scream. I remember them around 1984 on the route from Birmingham to Oldbury (and also sometimes to Pheasey or Sutton Coldfield).

No matter whether the lad is the driver / mechanics son, no way should he be riding on the platform like that, I don't think the insurance covers him in the event of an accident.
